    Default Leaking penske 8760

Back for more fun! I noticed some oil on the side of the car after a week of very cold weather.

    Is this a common problem?

Recommendations on a place to send it to have it tested? I hope I don't have to have them rebuilt.
Or just send it in to Penske?

I used Warren Wilson at Wilson13 in Indy for rebuilding my Multimatics. Competitive pricing and a very quick turnaround. Warren is a damper guy in Indycar so I recommend getting them to him before their season starts if you choose him.

Anze Suspension is one of, if not the largest Penske dealers in the country, and one of the best shock engineers around.

    thanks for this feedback.

Why not just send to Penske? The overhaul cost is lower.

I don't have a price comparison, but my experience with Penske in Reading, PA has been excellent.

Angelo (ANZE) and Steve Horn at Penske (Reading, PA) are both excellent choices for damper service, IMO.

I'm going with Penske as they have a lower cost and faster turnaround. I think the other place is too advanced for me. I'm just trying to get on the track and not have a catastrophic failure.

From looking at your pictures, I'm pretty sure that oil is NOT coming from your shock. Looks to me like it's leaking from either the top of your bell housing, or the overflow pipe to your catch can.. or the tube running to it.
The track for the oil does not appear to be coming from the shaft end of the shock.. about the only place it can leak from.

Good point - I didn't look at the photos before. You (redcar9) need to take the dampers off and study more closely where it's actually originating.

However, having said that, getting the dampers properly refurbished is a good idea in any case, so it certainly won't be a waste of $.

Clean your ICP perches carefully and manipulate them to make sure that is not where your leak is coming from. Those need to monitored and serviced occasionally as well. Richard at ICP can handle those for you 317-273-0089.

I sent them off to Penske as it was the most cost effective.

    They found this. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t7y04...=7ujwtbdn&dl=0

    .040" bleed hole

    .020" safety wire

Wild stuff, they said it works and must have been a race day fix.

I have seen this before - cheap and practical if you want less bleed. Not sure whether you could feel this at Club Level..............

I second Anze and Penske for rebuilds - Angelos always around the FRP races and knows this type of car, Penske pleasantly surprised me on a rebuild of a set of very special inter connected ride height shocks for a 333 Ferrari.

Oh I'm sure I had zero clue it was in there. Dang! That's a wild car!

I'm having Penske add the velocity dependent piston and looking forward to trying that out!

Mine as well and even cheated and setup my shocks up per Dave's service history. May not be perfect FC to F1000, but a good place to start.
