Default rFactor League Race #2 - Autobahn South

Ok, so hopefully all the bugs are worked out from the first race. On top of practicing laps, you should also be practicing standing starts, pit stops, and getting out of sand traps.

Next stop we're in Joliet, IL at the Autobahn Country Club on 2/10.

Default hopefully this time i will make it...

    hey guys..
couldn't get home in time to make the first race. grandson got operated on and that didn't happen until late in the afternoon. he is ok now and i should be able to make next race.
    speaking of last race..
how many pitstops for the guys, does that get posted anywhere and times and finish order?
some of those sand traps i couldn't figure a way out of keith. once beached, it seemed you needed the hook.
was the frame rates a problem? or was it just jeff, or did others have a problem?

we all get to just show up and race - on the other hand keith, you have a lot of work in this.
we ALL thank you for that.. thank you...

Go to the Hotlaps page here: http://home.comcast.net/~keith.carter/trackpedia/

    Then click Results

Then in the top left corner, there is a white [+] that you can click to open up the race results, which should have the stops each driver used, and a lot of other info.

Usually, then after the race, Keith puts up some really cool detailed information that can be found at the top link of that page, that will show you a full race recap, and might even have the race video link in there, too.

Video would be a cool addition to the results! Just don't show the minute and a half that I spent getting out of the sand trap @ Druids, while leading by a mile!

The same went for me too about leading and getting caught in the sand at Druids.

Jerry glad to hear the grandson is doing better.

I am going to find the link on how to to improve your frame rates by a great deal without putting much of a load on your system. it was in the coding, it might take me some time since race sim central forums are now down.

I saw so much of the sandtraps that I figured out that going from reverse to first got me out pretty quick.
Next race should be a little better, Thanks Keith and Doug, it was fun and frustrating, Hope I didn't get in the way too much as I was pretty much still learning how to play with everything.

I didn't have a problem with Sandtraps until I used DOUGS setup! It only made me 2 seconds faster, so I'll let it slide. I sat in the gravel for over a lap after tryin to pass Doug, oh well, it was fun. Oh, Chris I saw your letter in SportsCar, good work, and nice camera you won

    Default thanks for reply..

so the little + sign was the trick thanks doug
anywho... congrats to doug, caleb and john.. and caleb did it without stopping, wow. i had a heck of a time with that much fuel in practice, even a one stop was kind of tuff. good job. i was going to use chris's strategy. 2 stops.
in certain places the reverse and forward thingy did NOT work.. i guess who ever did the mod wanted it to be like real life. next time i will just get out and hit it with a sand wedge.....

i guess now on to autobahn..

The two stops was not a planned strategy, I went in the second time to try to repair damage, that was caused by some traffic shutting the door on me. And before my stop my dyslexia kicked in and instead of setting the fuel load for the amount of laps, I set the amount of gallons instead of laps....car was heavy rest of the race.

it's in the pitboard thing (4 screens iirc, [pit options, car status, driver performance, leaderboard]), you need to set a few buttons or such to toggle it and so on.

Sorry about not making it... My work schedule changed, and now I have to be on the road by midnight or shortly after Thursday morning... Working to get it changed back to a later Thursday start but we'll have to see.

    Default which would bring...

    us to some more questions...

Chris, you said you stopped to fix damage. is damage on during the race? is it set to full?
and, if damage is set on - when you stop in the pits, saying you could there. does that fix the damage?
i also presume tire wear is set to normal, as is fuel, correct?

    going to go practice now...

Yes, damage is on during the races. It's at 25% real damage. You can repair damage to a degree with a pit stop, but it will most likely not fix it 100% if the damage is bad enough so you will still have an ill handling car to some degree. When you call a pit stop to prepare your crew for you coming in, you will have all of your pit settings on the LCD. You can adjust what you want the crew to do like increase/decrease fuel load, fix damage, adjust wings, etc...

went out and did some laps on course. a little tricky. my hats off to you fast guys. wow, takes some skill.

also, a neat thingy with the skins package downloaded in the game. while practicing racing in the game you get to race some of the guys from the league.

just wanted all you fast guys to know that i kicked your butts.

trouble is, i made you all slower than me and i can't do that while racing in the leauqe....
kinda neat to see all The paint jobs though.

This track could be fun in an SRF, but just too tight for an rf3. Maybe Im just really starting to hate the rf3 mod.

I never really considered the South circuit tight other than the T1-T2 combo...I suppose my throttle foot thinks it is though. For that matter, my stopwatch thinks it is too!

    Doug,

Seeing that I'm .1 behind you, I don't have much to offer except I that it did help to soften the rear sway bar and add a bit of front camber. Past that and I'm realitively stock. I'm just hoping to be consistent and remain close to the front pack.

    Cheers,

Practice your starts and prepare for tomorrow. There are no starting lights at Autobahn so you need to watch the little flag man for the green. Control your launches.

    Here is the format

Please read and prepare so that minimal questions will need to be asked. Make sure you have the latest skin pack (version 2) if you haven't already raced with us. Any kind of action on track can be protested in order to be reviewed. Penalties will be awarded if deemed appropriate.

Remember... Consistency pays high dividends. Good luck!

Hopefully there will be a good turnout tonight assuming a lot of people are snowed in. I am ready to race and not hit the sand traps like at Brands Hatch. Although, if you get far enough out in the fields at ACC, it is possible to get stuck; trust me.

Great race everyone! Props to everyone who didn't spin, I found it pretty easy to get throttle-happy late in the race. Six spins won't get you much...

The start was clean, I somehow didn't manage to make turn 1 though...

Does the results/hotlaps site tally up points for the season? If not, I'll gladly take on the roll of keeping track of points.

Thanks again for putting together the series ApexSpeed!

    Cheers,

One MAJOR one on lap 29 going straight-line right through T9 and T10 using the grass, and picking up a good 3-4 seconds while I was chasing them down (had I known you could run 1:14s that way... geesh). Three separate incidents by my count, and while none of them changed the finishing positions at first blush, all of them were obviously intentional and could have effected the cars trying to run down the lead cars.

It's a for-fun league guys, we don't need anyone cheating in the league races or the hotlaps standings.

I agree. I noticed at least two seperate MAJOR chicane cuts. First of all it is "supposed" to be as realistic as possible. I highly doubt anyone would take an F3 car through a wheat field if they owned one. Secondly it was made pretty clear that "entering" the track after you spin in a safe manor was priority(and flying across three corners defeats the purpose). Third, even if cutting the chicane didn't set a lap record, it still improves the time and its not fair to the people trying as hard as they can to be safe, and do the best job they can. Enforce the rules!

Wow...I don't feel so bad about trying so hard to keep the car on the track now.

Since this is the only sort of racing I've competed in where we can view the race in it's entirety with on-board coverage, would it be worthwhile to have a general inquiry on said actions and as a self-governing group come up with a suitable penalty?

Ill be the first one to admit I cut the chicane. I was PO'ed someone knocked me off track into a spin while racing for position. If we want to make it realistic, then we shouldnt be leaning on people in open wheelers either. It didnt improve my position and no one was close enough to change positions with me.

We all log on at 9 ET to hopefully get the chance to race with someone. Yeah its a lot of fun to drive around for 33 laps only to pass a lap car or two, but come on. I agree if someone is doing it only to get a hotlap or pass someone.

    Let the debating begin.
