Finally getting my FF together. Hoping to do the MSR Houston Dbl reg in January. Looking for suggestions on gear ratios, or min & max speeds for MSR Houston to get me in the ballpark. I have a 10:31 R&P, please supply R&P with your ratios.
Thanks.
Scott
Need gearing for Roebling Road . 10-31 R&P

"l'audace, l'audace, toujours l'audace!"
It's been a while since I ran BRP (and I'd like to think that I'm a little better than the last time) but here's what I used the last time out (DB6, 10/31, Hoosiers):
17/35, 20/32, 22/30, 24/28

Post #46 had some info - I hope you ween't trying to get this info for last weekend!
Personally, I've tried both gearing so I only used 2-4 in the race and for using 1-4 during the race. My fastest laps were using 2-4 but it was also my second time at the track and I had THE driver coach helping me (James Lee).

Those are the correct gears for TWS 2.9 or 1.8 counter clockwise using standard Goodyear FF tires.
Since I have a vintage Lotus that uses Dunlops, I have no idea how big a standard Goodyear Tire is? Can someone help me move past the last oil crunch (70s)?
Thanks
Paul
The GY rear tire is listed at 22.5 diameter (Hoosier says the same thing).
My measurements for the rear GY tire has been between 22.2 and 22.75, which makes 22.5 a reasonable number to use for your conversion.
What's the diameter (or circumfrance, which is what I measure) of the Dunlops? I seem to think thay were a little taller or was that just the fronts?

I looked, but didn't see anything. Looking for advice on Fontana, with a weak gerbil powering a brick with wheels using a 9:31 spinning American Racers. I have two and a half months to prepare!
Thanks,

Vintage Dunlops are supposed to be 23" OD. So a little taller (~2%)

Anybody care to share Road America gear suggestions? 9/31 or 10/31 doesn't matter.
From Jake Lamont's book, a great source of info for every FF'er:
18/34 20/30 23/29 25/27 with 10/31

Can someone give me an idea of gears for Topeka?
Either 9/31 or 10/31 using goodyear tires
thanks
this will be a starting point which should not over rev your motor
it is for 9/31 and the goodyear 22.5 inch tires
25/25
21/24
22/29
20/30
it is very hot and dry by june, and the lap times are quite a bit slower than during the winter.
Gearing for a 10:31 R&P please, thanks.
"The winner ain't the one with the fastest car, it's the one who refuses to lose." - Dale Earnhardt Sr.
In Jake's book it is listed as: 17:33, 19:31, 21:30, 23:29 for a 10:31 with a note "Courtesy of Peter Symonds". I haven't been to NHIS in years but am going to run something close to the above next weekend. We'll see how it works out.

Anyone want to take a guess at a starting point for gears for Lightning?? CFF
Guess I will bring all my gears and make decisions at the track.
Tod
From the slow lap I did around it in a street car I would guess something close to Watkins Glenn short course gearing as a place to start.
Ed
Hi Eddie:
I viewed the slide show of the track that is posted elsewhere on the site. It looked like it had a lot of flow with no 1st or 2nd gear corners. Is that fairly accurate?

Yep, I think it will be a fairly fast track. The slowest corner seem to be the left hander after the bridge. Somewhere on Youtube there is a video of a lap of the track taken from the back seat of my car. The link is somewhere here in apexspeed but not sure I could find it.

Anyone have any gearing for the South Autobahn track? Please include final ratio and rear tire diameter if possible.
Thanks,

Looking for a starting point for gear ratios for Sandia in New Mexico, 10/31 c/p
thanks Terry
I'm going to run at Buttonwillow Raceway in September (New Driver).
Lola 342, Formula Ford, 9/31 R&P, with American Racers
The track configuration is Clockwise 25.
What gears should I start with?
Thanks..
Les,
See post #125.
I assume you can do the conversion....

I have a 9/31
used in my EuroSwift with goodyear tires 22.5" tall
18/33
21/31
23/28
25/26
If your tires are taller, then you should run lower, meaning
18/34
20/30
22/28
25/27
send a message if you need more info, I run at BW often

Any thoughts on NJMP Thunderbolt Raceway gearing for a Club Ford (9:31 R&P) ?
Looking for gearing for Mid Ohio for a FF.
It will actually be a CF running the hard tires with a 9:31 but gearing from a modern FF would be a good start for us as well (just let us know if it is with a 9:31 or 10:31 so we can convert)
Last year when I ran my Z16 there, I used these gears...
19/31
22/30
23/28
25/26
This was with a 9:31, runing Hoosier R60's. It may not be the ideal gearing, but it will at least give you a starting point.
Thinking of going to the race at NJMP Lightning course later this month. Looking for starting point on gears for a 10:31 R&P.
Don
Hey Don! I'd check with Jim MacNicholl, he was the man to beat last time! I think he was running The Glen short course gears, but not using 1st gear? I ran LRP gears, 21:30/22:28/24:27/25:26 and ran the same lap times as Jim. I don't know if the extra shift was helping or hurting me!
Steve
These look like 9:31 gears.I can convert them. If not 9:31 they are way off my gears for LRP and the Glen.
Don
Oops, yes they're for 9:31's, I should know better than to forget that!
Thinking of making the trek from Phoenix for a regional this year. Any gearing suggestions??
John
Making a come back. Should be ready for the Double Regional end of March. My DB-1 has 10:33 R&P, how about a good starter gear set for Eagle Canyon.
Hey Walter...Look forward to seeing you back out on the track!! I'll be my first run there too and first time out on the track in about a year. I don't have any idea what gearing to run either... I'm thinking about starting with what I run at motorsport ranch which is
16-31, 16-25, 18-23, 24-26
I also have a 10:31 The straights aren't too long and it looks like there are some pretty slow corners leading into them
Or, you could give Craig Taylor a call and see if he knows...
Walter- Great to hear you are coming back.We should have 12-14 cars if everyone shows up..Michael you should be at the Double National.I would use a 17/33 .20/31,22/30,24/28 to start at Eagles Canyon. Mike Sauce
