    Default FF Conversion

I thought I would share my FF conversion. Here are the details:
Chassis is a Lola 640 with a 2001 Susuki GSXR-1000, Yosh wiring harness, stock ecu, stock dash, Beasley spool, hydraulic clutch, Taylor half shafts. The engine is stock and was supposed to have 150 HP that year.

The conversion took just under 2 years and my out of pocket expenses after sellling my FF engine and Mk-9 plus a few other odds and ends came to just over $2,700.

I have raced it in 2 regionals so far with no engine issues, just the typical new car gremlins.

Bottom line is that any conversion is a ton of work but for me it was cheaper than having my FF engine rebuilt.

    Wow...good looking car, Chris!

Put some stubby wings on it and call it an FB...

    Default FD?

Stan - How about FD for stock restricted 1000 cc motorcycles engines with no wings, chassis based on FF?

    That looks great!

It's gotta be the fastest/scariest Lola 640 on the planet! :-).

Great job. There are a few of us that know just how much work is involved! And I bet it's a whole lot more fun to drive than a FF!

Sorry, Chris. That's already taken by the oh so aptly named Formula Drift guys.
I'm pretty sure they have wings, though.

I kind of like the idea of bringing back the OLD FB - big HP, big tires, no wings. Toyed around with the thought of a Pony Stock Pinto on sidedrafts stuffed into one of the 1st gen all-inboard FFs, like the 640 or a 84 VD.

I picked up a Van Diemen RF82 early last year, ostensibly in FF configuration. After one Formula Libre race, I had the motor opened up and looked at: it had a 1.5mm overbore - i.e. was 1700cc - oil pump was tired, head cracked, and the valves were at the end of their useful life.

After getting an estimate on a rebuild (even without re-sleeving back down to 1600cc), I considered stuffing in a pintomotor and gunning for top non-wing honours. (I've always been big on spending less and going faster. And averse to the opposite...)

Anyway, after reading about service costs on the Pinto, I wonder whether it's any better than running a Kent. Now, reading this thread, I've got another idea-of-the-week...

Just not sure that I can bring myself modifying the standard bodywork. Better just sell the whole deal and start an F1000 project with one of these VD FRenault chassis' lying around? Whudda y'all think?

By the way, Rick. You might get a kick out of this thing. Offered the guy a straight-up trade for the '82, but he's looking for a tin-top...
