GREEN RACING

Cape Coral, FL (August 31, 2011) – A lot is being said today about the green initiative in the sport of auto racing with many series looking towards alternative and renewable fuel sources. “We live in a fragile world,” said F1000’s Jon Lewis. “Reducing our carbon footprint and damage to the ecology is paramount to the future of our planet and I applaud all the series out there in making our sport more environmentally friendly.”

Lewis continued. “The impact to our environment was one of the ingredients that attracted me to the Formula 1000 class. Although we do not currently use alternative fuels in our series, we do use much less fuel than other race cars. The cars in the Formula 1000 Championship Series are all powered by 1 liter motorcycle engines. These engines are all stock and fuel efficient. They conform to EPA standards and run on Sunoco unleaded fuel. Typically, over a race weekend, a car in our Series will only use between 20-25 gallons of fuel. That’s very low compared to other race cars out there. We’re very excited that our series can put on a tremendous show for our fans and knowing that our impact on the environment is minor in doing so.”

The Formula 1000 Championship Series is an open-wheel racing series that features some of the most technically advanced race cars in junior motorsport. Formulated in the Grand Prix style of racing, F1000 races feature standing starts with cars that carry electronic paddle shifters, open aerodynamics, and engines that scream at 12,000 rpms, with speeds up to 160 mph. The Series is a forum for drivers to showcase their talent on their way up to the premier auto racing series in the world. Run at high-profile events on the North American racing calendar, all races are webcast around the world on SpeedcastTV.
