What places are really hotspots for these two racing classes?
New Mexico seems dead, I was under the impression that the Pacific Northwest has a lot of it.

Here in the NE, FV is very strong.
Huh.
I was thinking about the NW sadly- it's closer to home when I get done with the Army.
There is a limited program in the NW mostly nationals and the fields are pretty decent when the folks travel from down south in Cali. There is a very active group in Vancouver BC.
The above post is for reference only and your results may vary. This post is not intended to reflect the views and opinions of SCCA and should not be considered an analysis or opinion of the rules written in the GCR. thanks, Brian McCarthy, BOD area 9.
Like Brian said, the PNW has OK fields in the Nationals (now called Majors), but pretty much no one running regionals. There is a Regional in Portland this weekend and as far as I know, has one FV running - a Canadian looking to qualify for the Runoffs!
There are quite a few of us up in BC, but most guys stay local and race almost exclusively at one track.
If I was going to pick a place to live based on racing a vee, it would be somewhere in the NE or California!
There are three at least vees racing this season in ICSCC in the PNW. One novice from last year coming back and two new cars this year. Possibility of a fourth. Good news is Mission (in Vancouver BC area) is same distance from Seattle as Portland and they have a large Vee population. I hope to go to Mission for a couple of races this year.
Don't totally overlook Colorado &New Mexico. We have one FST in Albqurque and 3 cars in Denver as well as one in San Antonio with more Texas cars on the way. Our two Kansas cars and one in Oklahoma round out the series. Our Midwest series will be including races in Colorado & Texas in the 2015 season. We are growing quickly and have a great support network.
Just to confirm that the Pacific Northwest has good participation in Formula Vee (But right now only in BC, Canada). We get an average of about 10 Vees per race at Mission, BC (20 miles north of the Washington-BC border) We have a special invitational race that draws over 20 Vees (and some very fast US drivers, much to our chagrin).
A quick brag for the Mission Track: it's a very good track for a Vee. It's only 2 km long but has 9 corners and every one of them is a challenge for a Vee. The big horsepower guys complain that Mission is too tight, but it's great for the Vee.
[A side question: since in Canada we say 'Zed' for letter Z, should we call it Formula Ved?)
Unfortunately, the activity just south of the border is not much except for the SCCA majors. I am hoping that will change with the Runoffs being at Laguna Seca this year.
Four new FV novices racing this year in ICSCC, plus the one former novice from last year. I hope to get up to Mission and learn from the BC boys how it's done. Five FV's signed up for the Rose City Opener in a couple of weeks, two from up north of the border, the rest are us newbies.
I am in Portland and after looking at other classes and realizing that while I can afford an FC car i have no chance at affording a season i am heavily looking at FV and getting a car either in 2015 or 2016 depending on a few circumstances. I currently run in open passing track days in my slightly modified Lotus Elise.
I have contacted FART at mission raceway about rentals but if anybody has a rental in the PNW i would love to get my license and start looking to purchase a car.
I would be looking for a complete FV package with race ready car and spares and possibly trailer.
Jess Heitman runs fv cars out of his Portland shop Woodstock Motorsports 503 208 3712. He can help you buy a car and then offer any degree of support. 25 years in fv.
Take a close look at this one, it appears to be quite a nice deal. Lots of spares and if it has newer hoosier rains, you're gonna love that - especially here in the PNW! A good set of rain tires is required equipment.

If only I was in the market now! We break ground on our new custom home in a week or two so no funds for a 5th car right now otherwise I would be all over that FV.
I did make it down to the July 4th day and talked with Charlie out of so,cal and got lots of good info from him. Hopefully next year I will be the 8th vee
I am talking with team continental for a drivers training on the 25th at ORP(my favorite track)
I "should" be ready to purchase a car next spring when the season starts but might try and rent one from the Woodstock place before then to start working towards my three novice races.
Bob you must be Quinn's father/brother/son. He represented my father many years ago and I remember my dad mentioned his attorney raced FV but I was only 19 at the time so I had no idea what it was.
