    18-34, 20-32, 22-30, 23-28 Your mileage may vary

I think you've set the record for "lowest goal set", as BW13 is where I'm even slower than usual!

Found a cracked header and 100% leak in the corresponding cylinder last night, so I'm doing an unexpected head job.

SLC is a helluva tow to Buttonwillow! 12 hrs?

    Default track map?

Is there a track map available somewhere? That would be the first place to start. We could compare to existing tracks for a starting point.

I expect that after the first session, there will be a lot of cars with their rear ends up in the air.

    Default Nashville Gearing

I'm not in a formula car, but I DID stay in a Holiday Inn...

I've run both, and a good starting point for Nashville will be what you run at CMP. Top end should be very close to the same and both tracks have tight stuff that you'll want a grandma low to pull out of.

But then a taxi-cab has a bit more bottom end than a Pinto does.

    Default RA Gearing

    Fellas;
I went to the "Baseline Gearing" information on RA for my RF-94/95 (10:31), where it listed:
    • 18:32
    • 20:30
    • 23:28 (yes)
    • 23:24
Taylor Race Engineering has it at:
    • 19:32
    • 21:30
    • 21:25
    • 25:27
These are not even close. Any help?

    BASELINE GEARING FOR MOST TRACKS
The SCCA Chicago Region is holding a regional race at Autobahn on July 29-30 and it looks like they are going to use the South Track which is 2.1 miles and 15 turns. If you check out the Autobahn web site http://www.autobahncountryclub.net/ you can see the course layout. It is really a nice facility as I went there last year and got a lap of the North Course from the Director of Marketing.

The South Track looks like you might be able to run similar gears as Blackhawk Farms.

Does anyone have any gearing ideas for Autobahn for FC or CFC?

Where did you find this out from? Up until now they have run the North course. It would be good to have another track to add to the books.

    EDIT:
Nevermind... I found it listed on the Autobahn calendar.

    Default RA Gearing

    Rick,

I just did a review with Taylor for my 84 Reynard CFC 10:31 ring and pinion for RA.

Here is what they recommended for me and what I found out from various sources.

    1st - 18:32 = 1.77
    2nd - 20:30 = 1.5
    3rd - 23:27 = 1.26
    4th 24:26 = 1.08 or 25:26 = 1.04

If you run Grattan also, you will see the ratios there are very close and you can run the same ratios if it is an occasional event Vs your home track. I have not run Road America and am looking forward to the June 17 - 18 race. Perhaps someone who actually has run RA with these or similar gears has a view.

I would contact Taylor and talk to Craig and get his thoughts.

Anyone have gears for Pueblo? I raced there (what seems to be) a long time ago in a DSR but have no notes left and I don't find any on the thread. Seems like they were like Lake Afton- another indication of my age. Thanks for any help!

What rev limit and tire circumference were you using with those gears? I assume it was a 10:31 R&P.

    Default HELP...FC Gateway gears--first timer

It's my first trip the Gateway in this car so I did a search on the subject and folks have hit all around it but nothing definitive for FC. Is anyone using anyone using a 25:27 or 24:26 (or????) 4th? Some are using 24:27 but that seems low...

Travis at Taylor Eng. was helpful but admitted their data is dated & not definitive either (3 different numbers).

    Thanks,

    Default Autox gear combos

Hello, I just found this site tonight and I am going to be looking for lots of info on FC racing. I bought a '90 Reynard recently and the car will need lots of attention before it can be run again. I plan to run the car in autox and solo I events so that I can learn to tune and prep the car. Later on I would like to run in some drivers' schools and possibly some road races.

    The car is set up with 10:31 r&p, and the following gears: 1st 18:25, 2nd 21:30, 3rd 23:28, 4th 25:27.

Can anyone suggest possible gear combos that would work for medium speed autox events? Thanks,

I'm looking for some gear hints for Mosport in Ontario, Canada. I'm running an '84 Reynard F2000 with a mk IX hewland, 9:31 R/P, 22" rears, and 7K rpm limit.

Even min/max speeds expected in an F-2000 on Mosport would be a good start!!!

    Thanks,

    Sean in '04 at CMP:
    FirstSecondThirdFourth

    Tatuus in '04 at CMP:
    FirstSecondThirdFourth
    17 21 23 24
    28 31 28 27

Reynard at CMP in '03: (CFC lap record at the time)
    FirstSecondThirdFourth
    18 21 23 24
    33 31 29 27

I think Sean liked his '04 gears the best...

    BASELINE GEARING FOR MOST TRACKS

The Midwest Councill Sports Car Club is holding a race at Autobahn Country Club in Chicagoland area on Oct. 6-7, 2007. Last year the SCCA Chicago Region held a regional race at Autobahn on the South track which is 2.1 miles and 15 turns.

From the guys who ran the SCCA event last year including Keith Carter, did anyone come up with a good gearing selection for the track??? I know a lot of guys were changing gears after the first sessions.

If you check out the Autobahn web site http://www.autobahncountryclub.net/ you can see the course layout.

The South Track looks like you might be able to run similar gears as Road America.

Does anyone have any gearing ideas for Autobahn South Track for FC or CFC?

Last year I ran: 18/33, 20/31, 22/29, 24/27. I don't think the track changes will make much difference in gearing. I am going to start with these again this year.

I tend to run taller gears than most, so maybe a tooth down from that would suit you better.

From what I heard there seems to be some different thoughts on first gear but fourth gear is just slightly faster.

    1st 17/33 or 18/34
    2nd 18/29 or 20/32
    3rd 22/29
    4th 21/24 or 24/28

I heard an unverified rumour that the fastest guys were close to VIR gearing.

It's a much faster track than first appears.

I practiced two seconds under the current S2 record in my Lola and used Summit/VIR 1-2-3 and a 24/27 top. Worked fine and hit the right rpm point at braking for T1 (beginning of the curb). Nice track, fun and fast. T8-T9 is a tough little booger.
