Please post your requests for baseline gearing setups in this thread. It will prevent redundant requests and also make it much easier to find.

    Default Beaverun gears?

Could someone suggest some gearing for Beaverun? It doesn't seem to be on any gearing charts.
    Thanks!

    Default Gears for MAM

Bill, we ran their last year. If you can wait until tomarrow, I will look at our gearing there. In the meantime, what ring and pinion do you have?

OK, everyone has their own preferred spreadsheet for gear selection. Here's mine for determining RPM drop, MPH, etc. Same inputs (tire diameter and redline). However it is done in a "From -To" format meaning you can print it out and put a copy in your shop manual or gear box and not have to input all four test gear ratios. First, however, "Hide" rows and columns for gears you don't own (but probably wish you did), and then print it out. Then as you acquire additional gears (which you will) you can "unhide" that new gear's respective column and row and reprint the page.

Default Ratios for Mid America Motorplex

Anyone from the Mid West that could give me a starting point for gear ratios for an FC at Mid America Motorplex. Thinking of coming to play in a couple of weeks and would appreciate any help that you can give.
    Thanks

After looking up what I used at Mid-America a couple of years ago, I just realized your post is in the FC Forum.

But, for what it's worth, I ran very well there a couple of years ago (first) in a vintage FF, 9:31, 22.5" tires and used a 25:26 fourth gear. That top geaar worked great on Saturday with a very BIG tail wind on the front straight. However, Sunday was a headwind and 25:26 was very much too tall. I'd think the 25:27 is a more appropriate "no wind" top gear. Say,

    18:32
    21:30
    23:28
    25:27

But, as I said, this is for FF. Don't know if you have a way to translate this FF gearing to your FC needs.

Thanks Bob, much appreciated will see if I can convert what you sent into a starting point for FC.
Frank, per our phone call, the person you probably want to speak to just posted on the Fc classifieds. Pocono was a bit of a failure when a plastic cone appeared in the middle of corner 1 and snapped my front steering arm & for good measure ripped off the right hand mirror, shame really as i was having fun with Bob Wright & Al Jnr at the time.

    Default towing

Brent, you must like towing, what are you doing going that far? Has your wife kicked you out? Mosport is this weekend, Hallman and I will both have our Zetec's and DC may have Olivier there as well. Greg will be there and we sure would like to see you come out and play, Brian.

    Hey Brian,
Why drive 30 miles to race at Mosport when I can go 900 to visit a track I have never seen before!!!! Sadly the car won't be ready for Mosport this weekend. I slammed into an errant cone at Pocono that appeared from nowhere (I think Bob Wright threw it at me from his cockpit) which broke a steering before ripping off a mirror which necessitates some fibreglass repairs. While you and Jimmy are trading 1:18's around Mosport I will be squaring the car and placating my wife, hopefully earning enough merits to go to Mid America next weekeknd in search of an elusive point to make the run offs.
If I can escape Sunday afternoon will look to come out to Mosport to catch up with you.

    Hey Brent,

I don't drive FC but will give you as many pointers as I can to get around the track quickly. Just look for the Blue/Yellow FSCCA sitting around. Council Bluffs motels are the closest to the track with some form of food / entertainment. We usually stay at the Super 8 but there is also a Motel 6 next door. Let me know if you have any other questions.
    See you there!

    Brent:
As a first approximation, at least for CF, gears for MAM were said to be about like Heartland Park Topeka before the change in the straight. Phil Hemes is the one to ask, but I have not seen him here in a while. Try sending a message to member "H82BSLO." He is leading the Midwest Division FC points.

    Frank/Jason,
Thanks for the help & I look forward to seeing you both this weekend.
I have been in touch with Phil Hemes who mentioned that he would be there too and was helpful with ratios. We are old sparring partners, from way back when we both raced shifter karts in England. He was sickeningly neat & quick in those days & I doubt much has changed judging by his lead in the Mid West.
I will be arriving very late Friday night/Saturday morning, so will look out for you both later in the day.

    Brian,
How did it go at Mosport? Wasn't able to make it Sunday afternoon I was having a "shocking" time, literally, trying to sort out a short that was giving me intermittent problems the weekend before at Pocono... car is fine now I think, but I went in to the house looking somewhat like the professor from Back to the Future

Once you have the ratios for FC figured out, could you post them here for another who may someday make MAM the journey "900 miles for a track that I've never seen"? Thanks.

    Default Dave, as requested

The ratios that I used for Mid America. Probably not quite perfect but certainly good enough to run well & not risk damaging your engine

    16:29
    20:31
    20:27
    24:27

    Hope that this helps.

Default What gearing for Memphis Motorsports Park w/ 10:31

    Please.....

Base gearing for Memphis Motorsports Park, with a 10:31 r&p?

    Much appreciated!

Also, I have recently received my distributor back from Pertronix. I could not get it to work correctly after converting it , so the Pertronix folks offered to work their magic on it for FREE! I will report on its performance later for those who are interested.

Here are the gears we used at Memphis on a S2. 10.31 with 7200 rev limit.

    18.34
    20.31
    23.28
    25.26

That should be a good starting point.

Homestead: if i can find 'em for a 10/31 - i'll post it. For a 9/31 FF 1600, a simple thought is one tooth lower than sebring short course gearing.

    Default homestead

someone earlier asked about FC [assume 10/31 R&P] gearing for Homestead......can't find a reference for homestead in my notes but i've got this for them. remember, while some say run same as sebring short course, some others say run one tooth under that, and i'll bet others say something else. so i found this for FC 10/31 as sebring short. 17/33 19/31 22/29 24/27. hope this helps. and i can't find their thread too

Default Good ThunderHill baseline Gearing needed in a Pinto FC ?

Suggestions and any other info related to gearing, tips, car setup, track knowledge that will help push the learning curve envelope faster.. This way the test day can emphasize alot more driver development vs car setup.

    Thanks Apex Speed.

Hope to see a bunch of new faces in thunderhill.

Mike, here's what I got from Les Phillips (for a 10:31, Pinto motor):
    17:30, 19:27, 19:23, 23:24

It's what he ran in Jan. 05 and it apparently worked very well.
