Autowerks uses Purolator on my engine so that's what I use.
That is a valve to adjust pressure to the rear brakes. If it's a Wilwood there should be an arrow on the knob to tell you which way to turn it for less or more. Under braking as the nose dives and...
Those are Mysterian scoops, but they were too short for what I wanted so I extended them forward 6" or so. I can take more detailed photos if you like.
I used to run a K&N but now run a velocity stack with a piece of window screen as a filter to keep the big stuff out. The down side is if you go off the track into a sand trap or something, there's a...
Starting with a thicker oil is safe but not necessarily fast, and let's face it, fast is why we do this right? But you can start safe and sneak up on the right oil. Check your oil pressure at full...
This year I saw 237 max on a very hot day. I wouldn't want to go much above that. I've been told 260 is the time to worry but I've heard guys tell of 300, but their gauges could have been off.
I...
;)
The Falkens don't seem to respond much to minor changes (on my car anyway). I've tried all over the board and 13front 15rear seems to work best for me. But track conditions make all the difference....
Thanks, I'll look into it more.
This is sort of why I am inquiring. At Pittsburgh there are a few sections of the track where you are tempted to leave it in 3rd because the length of some of the short straights between turns are...
Ok thanks. There are a number of instances it would be useful and maybe save your engine. I'll see Guy at the Glen next month so I'll ask him about it.
Are they legal and has anyone tried one?
Thanks Derm it was fun!
I got the answer. You need to sign up for Formula Vee and then sign up for a challenge cup additionally.
The registration is a little confusing on Motorsport.org. It has an option to choose "Vee Challenge Cars" for primary registration, (I assume that's us) but when I click on it, it says I must first...
Thanks Ray! Always an awesome weekend with the Challenge Cup family. Pitt is a super fun track for sure. Hope to see you all at the Glen!
Well said. That sums it up and is all the proof anyone needs.
This is how it starts. This could potentially turn into a great alternative for many across the country. If others see how successful it is I don't see why it would not continue to grow. But as...
The Canadian F1200 series also uses the Falkens with great success.
We have no reason to try to tell others about this other than the fact that we are having a ball with close racing and not...
I understand polls and percentages. But the only number that really matters is the number of cars that show up at any given event. Are the people voting regular competitors? There's no way to know I...
Well, there you have it. When all else fails, give the people what they want. I would have assumed that everyone wants to save money, but hey, what do I know. I'm totally ok with separate series....
Agreed. If we can get everyone on the same page and be more concerned about value for the dollar and quality of competition than lap times (approx. 3-5 sec. diff) then the fields will be huge again....
Exactly...and no separate rain tires!
Run the Challenge Cup on Falken Radials, enjoy large field single class racing, YEARS on a set of tires, great super close racing, awesome people, parties with free food, cash and product giveaways....
.
Sunday didn't go so well for me, but Saturday was easily the most fun I ever had in a race car! Bravo to everyone involved! Looking forward to the next event!
Does anyone know if we are using the chicane or not? I've seen videos both ways....
It was an awesome time! This series is why I am able to get back into racing. Thanks to all who contribute!
Very nice work! And you are very lucky to be able to work on your car during work, wow!
The issue was with the Hoosiers and the rains. Good to know, thanks!
When I registered I had to give them the credit card info, so I assume it avoided the late fee and they will charge me when they want to.
Ok, I searched and all I could find was that the big Ford 10 bolt circle is 225mm. I could find no cross reference to the 205mm VW pattern. Maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing. Can you direct me to...
Awesome, thanks!
Does anyone know if there will be a Hoosier guy or someone to balance the VW bolt pattern wheels at the track? I am having absolutely no luck finding anyone locally to balance them.
Ha ha, there are a lot of turns to get lost in.lol
Ok cool. I see you are pre registered also. It looks like a small field so far but maybe others will register at the track.
Anyone going?
Eh, I just ran out anyway ;)
Just an update. I fabricated a container for lead shot from some scrap exhaust pipe I had. It hold 20lbs full, so I can adjust the weight as needed and it will get securely bolted to the bottom of...
And to make it worse, I'm dieting now, ha ha. I decided to use lead shot. I'm going to fabricate a metal container that's easy to add and subtract weight.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into it.
Can anyone give me some ideas what to use for ballast and where to mount it? I have to add about 15lbs. We used to have lead weights when I was racing karts, but I don't even remember where we got it...
Very cool car! Welcome. I had a bit of trouble getting below the "straight edge" line with mine also, but a lowered and more rearward seating position did it. I am not tall (5'-8") and I am convinced...
Ok, yes I was wondering about the pins. I wasn't aware they will pull out. Perfect. Actually I was looking for the gram scale we used to use for the cub scouts pinewood derby cars  but...
Sorry, yes the weight is there. I will check the cover for warpage. Can I just get a gasket or do I have to buy a rebuild kit? Thanks for your help.
If I turn it upside down and blow through it, the air is very restricted but not completely. A very small amount of air seeps through until I gently press on the needle then it stops completely. If I...
I am having a bit of fuel seeping from one of the cover screws. Looking at the gasket design, it looks like there is really no way for the gasket to seal the screw with the oval style hole going into...
Would you still run Formula Vee? I think I would.
Welcome! Awesome looking vee. Can you tell us more? Details man, details! Lol
There's a couple of threads about fabricating one. Here's one where the plans are available...
