This is what CFC should look like today. If you cant update suspension, then should not be able to update aero... just my opinion.

FWIW, the FC db-6 I bought did not have an diffuser, but did have updated wings.
When we added FC to VARA, we split it into FC1 (rocker cars) and FC2 (pushrod cars thru '97).
It would have been cool to have the FC1 cars in their original configuration, wide chord wings, no diffusers, etc - but that would have required the owners to dig up the wings somewhere and we thought it would restrict the class too much.
There's a guy out here running the Pacific F2K pro series with a 94VD - pinto power, no diffuser, and a enclosed boattail ala' the 1983 March Indy cars and early Reynard FCs - and it's damn fast.
