    Default toggling relay?

    Asking for a friend. Don't blame me I didn't do it.
    So, I 'm working on an old Indy car with an older AIM steering wheel. Buttons on the wheel control what I think may be called a latching or toggling relay. The relay changes from latched open to latched closed with each push of momentary button on the steering wheel. Ideally, I would like to find the same part as replacement. Not sure if I'm using the right terminology for searching. Part is small .6x.5x 2.0 inch. Photo shows only number on part, 1409 maybe. Any leads apricated.

    1409 could be a date code as much as a part number. I take it this was not OEM equipment for the period?

    Do you think they are AIM components? Maybe give them a call? Dave Ferguson or Romoman might know something about them.

    Other than that, there are Reddit subs that might be able to answer your questions.

    The size/shape suggest something like a reed relay? Looking at the colours of the wires, red/black are power, with the grey pair and white pair as switched on-off.

    The function you described is called latching but I thought the behavior was programmable on the AiM so that the output can be momentary or latched in which case the specific part you’re trying to replace may not actually perform the complete latching function on its own. Can you still power the wheel and check the signal wire to the component you want to replace? See if the signal is momentary or latched. If the signal is latched then a regular relay is all that is. If the signal is momentary then the relay is a latching type.

    The most likely situation.

    Thanks for the ideas. There are a number of points of failure on this thing. First gen wheel with added non aim buttons. SPA wired quick release. Lots of connections. Will test some more and report back.
