    Default AIM System for VanDiemens

What AIM systems are you guys installing in your VD/RF cars?

I currently have an older MXL Pista and it's all out of date. The newer software is clearly better.

I was considering the EVO5/GS-Dash or EVO4s/GS-Dash but have learned they are both discontinued.

Looking at the other products (MXm/MXs) they all have data connections out the back center.
From what I can tell that won't work for me and my RF01 because it puts the display too low.
I can't stand it off with a 90deg connector because that would create interference with the wheel.

The remote screen of the EVO series was great with just a small wire.

    Haven't heard any replacement announcements.

    Anyone have a different solution?

Never had a dash on the wheel. It would be an expensive experiment !

Not sure if it interfaces with the ECU.

The recommendation to me was the Xlog. Apparently you can add a display to it.
BUT it's missing a lot of CAN features the EVO5 provided. So I suspect they must have a replacement.

I just put an MXm in my RF99. I had a simple bracket made by sendcutsend and welded it to the front roll structure. It's at a slight angle and clears the frame and steering column easily without touching. I did also have to have a spacer for the steering wheel made so my knuckles would clear the display.

Interesting idea. I'm uncertain if I can move my wheel toward me more - if that'll be better or not.

What does the cable bundle look like coming out the back?

I only had to move the wheel a quarter inch closer to me than it was before, I can't tell the difference. Previously it had a quarter inch lexan spacer just to hold buttons to operate the old data system, I removed this since the MXm has integrated buttons and replaced it with a half inch of aluminum spacers. Here's the back of the data system, I made sure there is enough space that nothing was touching and I can detach the cable and uninstall the device itself easily if I want to.

Oh yeah, if you want the mount I can mail you the extra I had made. Having two made cost pretty much the same as one so I got a spare.

Looking at the MXM - those connectors are bolted on with a flange, which suggests that there's a short cable underneath - maybe even a flex board soldered to the back of the big connectors.

Seems like removing the connectors would give you the opportunity to solder in longer cables and a 90 degree exit off the back of the device, and then use the standard connectors with 3D printed backshells. Maybe something that Dave Ferguson or Romoman could facilitate from their position as dealers, or something that could be done at the AIM facility in Lake Elsinore.

Long term I worry about the viability of these products for those of us with "analog" cars. My Michron3XG Log is now 20 years old. If you could take a XLog, an ACC-3 or two, an expansion hub, and a dash (which they haven't indicated a compatible dash yet) then you could build an analog system as long as it doesn't require an ECU.

I have oil temp, water temp, oil pressure, tach, wheel speed, and steering angle, which would pretty much guarantee needing two ACC-3 modules but it would leave two empty analog channels for other uses. Might require and optical or magnetic pickup for the tach for better signal quality.

Would be nice to future proof this thing.
