Default FCCS - June Sprints Roll Call

Registration has opened this week for round 2 of the Formula Continental Challenge Series at the June Sprints. With our first race at PittRace less than a month away and already shaping up to be one of the biggest FC fields in recent memory, I'm confident the June Sprints will be just as well attended, if not more. The June Sprints are one of the premier events of the year, and the added FCCS perks will make it another event you won't want to miss.

This year, FC has a unique opportunity to have a group paddock, rather than the normal assigned parking everyone else at this event will have. This paddock would be in a paved area so it will be formula car friendly. The organizers have asked that we push for early entries so they have an idea of our needs and can plan for us accordingly.

With that said, we encourage everyone that is intending on going to register early so you can help us help the organizers and make this an awesome event. Importantly, your credit card will NOT be charged until after the event, so there is no harm in signing up early. The parking cutoff is May 4th, but the more early entries we have, the better our chances of the organizers getting us good paddock spaces will be. When you register and reach the parking section, please put something to the effect of "with other FC drivers" for your preferred paddock assignment.

Here is the link to register:

We are already at 7 cars entered after only a few days. Let's get those registrations in and continue to build the excitement around these events!

We currently have 17 cars registered for round #2 of the FCCS. If you missed Pitt, you won't want to miss this one.

I will add that the Chicago Region has confirmed that they will be giving all FC drivers that want to park together our own group paddock in the North Paddock (down the hill from the Gearbox). If you weren't aware, this area is being fully paved (literally as I type this) and will have its own path to the false grid, so this will be a good spot for us to be. Thank you to Pete LeSueur for going up to bat for us and making this happen. LTD will be hosting the party/prize drawings for this round.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or if you have any feedback on how Pitt went.

2 weeks left to register for the June Sprints. FC is currently sitting at 17 entries. We are tied with our FF friends for the largest Formula car class and have the 3rd most entries of any class. We had 19 cars last year, and it would be awesome to match or exceed that total.

And since this is an FCCS event, we will have a Saturday happy hour with food and drinks, sponsor prize drawings, photography, a group paddock, & more!

    Default June Sprints Preview

With registration closed and the field set at 18 cars, I want to highlight the drivers that make up the field for FCCS round 2 at the June Sprints. We have a nice mix of returning drivers that were at Pitt and new faces to the series. FC was just 1 entry shy of matching last year's total, and FA has substantially less entries than last year, so we are sure to have some clean track time. The weather looks beautiful with mid 70s each day and only a small chance of rain on Sunday.

Sheets: Carter Sheets heads west to Road America after a strong showing at Pitt in FRP. He's been getting all the seat time he can get this year at both SCCA and FRP events, and has developed rapidly as a driver already. He'll look to carry that strong momentum to Road America.

Wallschlaeger: Bill Wallschlaeger returns to the June Sprints again in 2025. He drives an RF97 which is a slippery car and could prove to be a strong package at Road America.

Lesueur: Devin Lesueur returns for round 2 and was another driver that showed strongly at Pitt. He was knocking on a podium finish in both races, and will surely be in the mix at Road America being his home track.

Hutchinson: Mark Hutchinson will be thankful to see a dry track after having a mixed bag weekend in the wet at Pitt. Mark struggled in the rain in race 1, before turning it around in race 2 and finding a lot more pace. Like Devin, this is Mark's home track, and he always does well here, so he'll be another one to watch for.

Dixon: Brandon Dixon also heads west to Road America after dominant showings at Pitt, both in FCCS and FRP. He will look to continue his winning ways and could be considered the favorite to stand on the top step come Sunday.

Hansen: Devon Hansen is looking to get his season back on track after losing an engine early on during the Pitt weekend. Fortunately, the block damage proved to be minimal, and the engine was rebuilt quickly. Devon is thrashing this week to get his car together but optimistic to turn his season around after thinking it was over at Pitt.

Otte: Road America specialist David Otte returns in 2025, albeit in some new machinery. Last year he put an 87 Reynard on the front row in an abbreviated qualifying session, and this year returns in a beautifully prepared Zetec-powered Van Diemen. It will be interesting to see what he can do in a modern car.

LaRue: We hope John LaRue will be joining us for the June Sprints after being taken out by a different class car at the Mid-Ohio FRP event sidelined him from Pitt. John was not optimistic about making the race a few weeks ago, but the fact he still registered makes us think there's a chance he'll make it. If so, he will certainly be a factor up front.

Beauchamp: Rock Beauchamp is another driver hoping to turn things around after a frustrating weekend at Pitt. He never really got his footing at the new track with all the torrential rain that weekend, and another clutch issue ended his race 2 early after a gamble for wet tires proved to be the right call. He hopes the clutch issues are rectified for good now, and that he can go back to developing as a driver.

Johnson: Bill Johnson returns to the June Sprints in 2025 looking for redemption after a crash ended his race early last year. Bill has one of the most well-developed Van Diemens in the country and is rapid around Road America. He'll be a dark horse to steal a win here.

Kiriluk: Dean Kiriluk returns to round 2 after finishing at the podium in race 1 at Pitt. Dean in an LTD car is a force to be reckoned with, so don't be surprised to see him standing on the podium again here.

Eade: Hayden Eade returns to Road America with a new engine in the back of his Van Diemen after engine issues ended his 2024 season on a frustrating note. He has broken his engine in at Blackhawk and early signs point to it being a good one, so he'll be eager to let his new Zetec stretch its legs at Road America.

Varacins: Michael Varacins makes his return to action after an injury leading up to Pitt prevented him from making the event. Pain management will be the big question for Michael, but a driver of his caliber can never be counted out.

Pietz: Jeffrey Pietz wins the farthest tow award, coming all the way from Fresno, California to be part of the action. He already has some laps under his belt at Road America this during a vintage event, so he'll look to put that valuable track time to good use at the Sprints.

Roberts: Jim Roberts joins the field as the lone Carbir in the field. His car is beautifully prepared, and Jim has decades of racing experience that he'll look to put to good use. Carbirs can excel at high-speed tracks so he may give the Van Diemens a run for their money here.

Tomasi: Brian Tomasi looks to turn things around after a mixed bag weekend at Pitt. He took pole and ran very strong in race 1, before his starter died on the grid for race 2 and sidelined him. Brian knows Road America like the back of his hand and is always in the mix.

Cronin: Brendon Cronin was a last second addition to the Pitt weekend and returns for round 2 at Road America. He found more and more pace with every session at Pitt, and will look to do the same at Road America. Brendon runs under the LTD tent so he has the all the resources to go fast.

Parr: Daniel Parr joins with the oldest car in the field, driving a Van Diemen RF94. He raced with us at Blackhawk last year and was every bit a match for the modern cars, so we're excited to see what he can do at Road America. Either way, everyone loves to see older cars coming out to race with us.

The FC party will be Saturday evening at the LTD tent (down the hill from the Gearbox near Turn 14). Most of us should be paddocked in that vicinity other than a few people in RV spots. It will be similar to the party at Pitt, with the Lesueurs manning the grill, free beer (Spotted Cow, Beauchamp home brew, etc.), sodas, prize drawings from our sponsors, and more.

    Default P1 Times

Times from the Group 2 practice showed Dixon on top of the chart with a healthy 2:11.640, Varacins posted a 2:12.444, and Johnson clocked in at 2:13.631. We all know that lap times can be very deceiving at RA due to traffic and tows. Rock failed to post a time, hopefully he has it together for the next session, Q1, set to take the flag at 4:20 Central. Any updates from those at the track here and on FB would be appreciated.
