We have purchased in New Zealand one of these cars and am looking at getting its MSNZ logbook underway.

Just wondering if anyone has or could send me a photocopy of there SCCA logbook or FIA book to assist in fast tracking the process here

The car is the ex Kiwimanz car that was documented on here.

I apologise for bringing this up again. I've spent the last 6 months trying to get a response from Brian regarding the tubing used for the car and not had one reply. I need this information to complete the logbook process, and I’m becoming quite frustrated with the lack of communication. We’re now approaching a point where I may have to cut and remove the roll bar in order to have a new one made with known materials.Does anyone know what materials were used in the construction? I will need this information in writing for our local authority, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I regret starting this process now, as owning a Carbir has been far from an enjoyable experience.

Sorry to hear you have so much grief over this. Best way to determine the type of steel used for your roll bar is by analytical means. You can have a metallurgical inspector use an instrument to positively identify the grade of steel for your roll hoop, or most any part of your chassis. For example, https://mtlabs.co.nz/ may be able to help you. They should have an instument called a "Niton" PMI analyzer available to determine the exact material of your roll hoop.

With all due respect there are 51 (!) months between your "I messaged him" and your "I might need to make a new roll bar" posts ...

What would it have cost 4 years ago to move on, do a new roll bar, and have been enjoying racing your race car for the last few years?

What would it have cost 4 years ago to move on, do a new roll bar, and have been enjoying racing your race car for the last few years?

Many thanks Ian. Yes this project has taken time. The car has been converted from its Chinese spec to f1000 spec. This takes time and you have to work with you fabrication shop. That and I have a son that races in what you call a Vee.

I'll be attempting to call him next week now that a couple of nice members have shared his contact details.

Is there an issue in assuming it is seamless mild steel? Does it have to be DOM?

I am sorry for the problems that you are having getting your chassis Certified.
All that I can tell you is that the main hoop is a double hoop made out of 1 1/2" X .090 4130 Chromoly seamless tubing.
The dash hoop is the same but only a single hoop.

Unfortunately there are no certification papers for these chassis as none were required for them to race in China.
We just showed that they met FIA and SCCA requirements and that was good enough.
They are basically a heavy duty version of our Formula Continental chassis.

Would it help you if I were to write a letter stating these specks?
