Has anyone had any luck running Avgas in the Toyota engine? Loyning head; 100 LL converts to about 108 octane.

AFAIK, the Toyota Atlantic engine has 12 to 1 compression. I don't think 108 is enough. But could be wrong.

Standard compression ratio to octane charts state 108 will work at 12:1. However, high ignition advance & high revs may require higher octane. 100ll seems marginal... ?

Here is what Steve Jennings has to say:
Fuel: VP C-14 Race Gas or (112 Sunaco Blue Supreme) 112 Min. LEADED RACE gas.
Is saving a few bucks worth burning up an engine? What's the engine worth?
Would be interesting to know what is being used at the Reno air races. Some how doubt that avgas 100 LL is being used exclusively or at all.

Thanks Dad, Ivey recommends avgas 100 LL for his Kent 1600 engines and that can be purchased at my local airport for about $6.50/gal. Not a bad price for an engine with the typical compression of the Kent. I imagine the correct VP fuel is at least twice that amount for the FA engines. Wouldn't use any fuel that hasn't been observed and jetted on the dyno and recommended by the builder for any competition engine.
VP fuels run about $15.00 / gal & up. Our two stroke kart fuel runs $23.00 / gal. We pay retail to support the track![]()

I put Sunoco 112 in my Atlantic (toyota) I paid $8.50 gal down in Fl couple weeks ago. The engine seems happy on that.

Does anyone have a good comp ratio calculator they will share
