    Post Sports racer $6000 + trailer $2000 + webers $800 + ecu $200

    SPORTS RACER $6000 + TRAILER $2000 + WEBERS $800 + ECU $200
TRACK DAYS - AUTOCROSS - TIME TRIALS -- MODIFY for DRIFT – OR TAKE RACING
My little race car is now for sale. Let’s face it – Track Days and Racing is fun. But one mistake and you could be walking home with a big tow and repair bill. But, if you buy this package and tow to the track, you’ll have a really, really, fun car. With your seat only inches above the track, the sensation is-- to say the least–exhilarating.

It is configured like a formula car with an open center cockpit, but with a full sports car body. And, it is welcome at track days as it is not open wheel! (Some track days don't like open wheel formula cars.) This is a purpose-built race car - not a modified street car.

[NOTE: These first two images are before nose and tail modifications - nose reshaped and rear fascia removed.]

It has a (new) gorgeous livery of bright white with a unique super-wide black stripe and a hint of reflective red trim plus contrasting rondels with reusable numbers (1, 6, & 7).

The car is located in Fort Walton Beach, FL (the NW Panhandle). Car is in "Near-Ready to Race" condition. You could just install the battery, check the fuel, strap in and GO. (Needs new SCCA Annual Inspection and normal pre-race preparations). To answer the question “Why am I selling?” I am building another race car (virtually from the chassis-up) and “she” demands a lot of time and attention these days.

VALUE: Combining low initial cost (see a modifed excerpt from Holmberg’s comparison chart below) and lower operational cost, this car makes your wheel- to-wheel racing or track days very economical to enjoy. For example, the TOYO R888 tires get two to three times the wear of spec slicks, at a cost of only a few seconds per lap. And by using off-the-shelf race parts, you can avoid the mark-up associated with buying “spec” items too (brake pads, shocks, tires, etc.). [NOTE: I’ve entered best guess HP. The weight and expenses are measured/averaged.]

Also on separate offer (or as part of a package) is a custom built low-boy trailer that, when included with the car, is available for $2000 (see in photo). Includes 12v battery and winch, storage box, and tie downs. Won’t be sold separately until car is sold.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++SPECIFICATIONS++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++
    CHASSIS #123
WHEELBASE 92 in (2,337 mm) wheelbase
    WEIGHT 1216 pounds (less driver)
    FRONT/REAR BALANCE 45%/55% (less driver)
    LEFT/RIGHT BALANCE 49/6%/50.4%
    TRACK - FRONT 57.4 in
    TRACK - REAR 57.0 in
LENGTH OVERALL 127 in (3225mm) Shortened length - not "Spec."
FUEL ETHANOL FREE 96 octane (or run with 106)
    TOP SPEED 135 mph (EST)
SAFETY All Safety items all in compliance with SCCA.
    Fire bottle "in the green"
    Master Cut-off and Fire pulls
Tow using roll bar - no TOW fitting/Straps required.
Rollbar/cage meets SCCA Spec (Tall-man Hoop)
    Belts re-webbed - good until June 2022

MULTI-CLASS: This little racer is legal in Super Production Under (2.5L) in SEDiv/SCCA, can run in SCCA B-Mod Autocross, and is welcome at most tracks. (Unfortunately, it cannot run in SCCA Track-Nites, as those are restricted to production automobiles only). But it can participate in other night activities (enduros for example), as it is pre-wired for lighting, including turn signals [would need a bit of work to fabricate and install light buckets]. It might even be licensed as a kit car in some locales.

AERO MODIFICATIONS (All SCCA Legal as SPU): Overall, the vehicle is in really good condition. It has been a test bed to evaluate many aerodynamic concepts, and some chassis and bodywork modifications have been made. These would need to be “undone” if a buyer wanted to up-convert this car to a Generation 3 SCCA Spec Racer Ford. With these modifications, it most likely would not compete in Vintage. However, it remains SCCA race-legal as is.
Body has many modifications to improve aerodynamics and handling.
    Nose shortened and re-shaped.

Radiator airbox sealed [Eliminates airflow through chassis/wheel wells]
Fiberglass splitter and air dam [Downforce enhancements/can mix and match]
Front wheel well trim tabs added (spats) [Improve airflow around wheels]
Wheel "air curtains" added to front chassis [direct airflow to tunnels]

Side pod tunnels [outstanding downforce enhancement!]

Fender louvers – all four corners [Relieve under body pressure and decrease lift] Rear fascia "parachute" is removed and the tail shortened [Major drag reduction]
Spoiler added (6-inch chord). [Angle is adjustable to help "tweak" aero balance.]

ENGINE MODIFICATIONS FOR POWER/PERFORMANCE: The car was originally an SCCA Spec Racer RENAULT. It is SN 123, and there are many historical documents and manuals included. It retains its RENAULT heritage, but has had many engine modifications. NOTE: There has been limited engine run-time since these modifications. Estimate 115-125HP -- less than two hours engine time since modifications. Sorry, no actual track times – or DYNO results.

RENAULT 1.7L engine with 2.0L cylinder head
    Race grind camshaft (ELGIN Cams)
Increased size Intake/exhaust valves (Burton Valves U.K.)
Camshaft timing with adjustable cam pulley (C.A.T. Products)
    Lightened flywheel (shaved 3 pounds)

Front/rear brake pressure gauges (really know your front/read adjustments)

Switch panel installed for camera, radios, data, radiator fans, Cool suit
    GPS digital speedometer
    Battery/bus voltage digital display
Pre-wired for street requirements (Kit car class) headlight/taillights/signals/horn
Battery relocated to improve cross-weight balance.

Two chassis stands for set up and maintenance (including rollers for ease of positioning)
Inclinometer (for rake and suspension adjustment/spoiler setting/etc.)
    Tire pressure gauge, durometer

[NOTE: Moving the battery solved the Cross Weight]

SPARE PARTS INCLUDED: I offer the car with a comprehensive list of spares and some interesting options (below). Price is $6000 in its basic configuration. This BASE PRICE includes many items not typically included, like scales, chassis stands, etc. At this price, a buyer could also consider replacing the RENAULT engine and transmission with a HONDA (K20for example) for really wild performance.
Set of four (steel) wheels (with limited-life Goodyear slicks mounted)
    Five-speed RENAULT transmission
Ready to install freshly rebuilt 1.7L cylinder head

    BONUS ITEMS (Included with Purchase):

Naugahyde storage cover (some repairs – but fully functional)

    RENAULT banner for trackside
    RENAULT patches for your suit

$800.00 Custom-built intake manifold and two 40 DCOE WEBER carbs WEBER DCOE jets and manual included
    [
NOTE: using the WEBER DCOEs will require some rear deck modification]

All totaled up, under $10K, and you’re on the way to the track! ($9000 as a package: $6000 car and spare;, $2000 Trailer after car sold; $200 ECU setup)

Can we see it with the bodywork on?

Also some better photos of the chassis would be sweet.

Chassis pics in a few days - at the earliest.

All the #17 pics are the body work on. - Are they not showing up?
Image with #121 shows a bit of the chassis - and the earlier mod to the rear deck - parachute (drag elimination)
They preview at my end. Or, do you mean the Corvette?

Or did you mean; "...bodywork - off?"

    Please advise.

    Cheers - Jim

What year is the chassis? The first 100+ cars were 1984/1985 and the last (#450) was 1986?

It's crazy that the entire package was only $10k brand new. The SRF3 is what, $45k?

    Default Chassis #123 - 1984 Jeep/Renault Build

Sorry - I don't have the exact date on the chassis - The Mumm Brothers are/were the keepers of the flame... And they collected all information and kept much of it posted on their website.

I had been given the impression the car was a 1986, as that was when more were in production and being delivered. Your question sparked my interest and I did some more research. I can now say with some certainty - the chassis is a 1984.

The distribution of the first 185 purchasers (by SCCA Division)was: Southeast (40), Midwest (36), Central (35), Northeast (21), Southern Pacific (21), Southwest (21), Northern Pacific (11). These are people who paid for a car, not delivered or assembled. By 12/31/1984, 151 cars had been built. This chassis is # 123--one of the 1984 builds.

Finding the chassis number was a bit of a chore, as at the time no form of an ID plate was produced. They just stamped the number into the right rear body mount. Seemed like a location just ready for a collision! But, that's where I found it.

    Rick -

Very good question. I'll weigh when I pick it up. It is in storage and I need to bring it home for a "freshen-up."
Has always been towed with Nancy's Nissan Xtera - No problems.
Can't say I can "lift it" by hand, but it is an easy jack with the scissor if/when needed.

    Rick -

I haven't got to the trailer to get a real-deal weight - but, the trailer comes in at 2200 (as I recall) and the car at 1200-ish. So say the combo is 3400- maybe up to 3600#. The Xtera is rated at 5000# and 500# tongue weight.

    Hope that data is useful.

    Cheers - Jim

    Rick -
Got the car and trailer home. I used my Ruggles scales to get a gouge on the tongue weight. Mind you its is on the drive way and a bit downhill - so only "close" 400# at the tongue.

Hope that is useful - at least it's like a non-bump - thanks.
