Default VDCA Event in March - 30 Entries!

With all the talk on the board of trying to increase race entries, I am a bit surprised no one has mentioned the VDCA event at VIR in a few weeks. It’s currently at 30 FFs, or more technically 21 CFs, 5 HFs, and 4 PCFs. I’m quite sure there will 5 plus racers at the tip of the spear (no I won’t be one of them), and enough entries to allow for plenty of mid-pack fun for the rest of us.

You won’t see anyone run 2:00s like you might with a modern FF on slicks, but the front runners will be sub 2:10. I’d call that plenty fast for a 50 year old car running treaded tires that last a season.

    Should be fun!

    Default hopefully 5s

Hopefully, someone will make it into the 5s this spring (it's been done multiple times in the fall) . We've got some really fast drivers coming, so this may be the year. 7s and 8s in the spring are pretty routine for the front pack now, but 5s takes help and luck.

Doing the math, if the Spec Car Club of America's Super Duper Major Formula Honda class averages 4 cars, there's a 75% chance of a podium finish. If Formula Fords have a field of 30, that's only a 10% chance at a podium. Looks to me like participation isn't a problem with the Fords.

    Default VDCA March 30th

Actually, this is round 1 of the Formula Ford Challenge Series now entering its 10th year. FFCS is the largest FF group in the Eastern US (Crossflow Cup is the major Series on the West Coast with similar numbers).

    FFCS 2025 program includes:
    Mid-Ohio (April 25-27),
    Summit Point (May 15-18),
    Thompson (June 20-21),
    Pitt Race (July 11-13) and
    Watkins Glen (Sept 19-21).

A great mix of "Bucket List" tracks and local tracks. expect 40 cars at the big tracks and 25-30 cars at the smaller. Its FF like it used to be - which is why its confusing to read of people "trying to get back to how it use to be". Stable rules, treaded tire, sensible class distinction means there is racing for all. Thank you to those who support the Series, as long as it has the support it will continue healthily into the future.

    Default "Fives"

    Top 5?

Of the now 33 entries, I count 10 cars that are recent feature event race winners and podium finishers so the "tip of the spear" is getting crowded. A top 5 or 10 in this field will not be a walk in the park.

    2:05?

This is a Scott Fairchild intimidation tactic. We're all supposed to think there's no way I can do that, I can't keep up with him! OK, it's possible but it would require fresh tires, perfect track conditions, a double or triple tow (front straight, straight into the esses, back straight) and drive a perfect lap on top of all that. I just hope to stay near the front, minimize mistakes and see where the chips fall.

    But it's vintage Doug.

    It's not real racing.

Number 34 just entered and 35 at the key board! That is an amazing field.

Great to see some pre-race banter.

I’ll jump into the “5” discussion. I’ll be ecstatic if I can get my fast lap to end up with a 5 this weekend. Okay, it may not be the same 5 as Scott, Doug and those folks, but will be a big win for me :-)

Your times dropped at RRR. The camber change should give you more tire to feel at the back of the car. So don't be too conservative about what you're capable of

Looks like the final total is 39 cars for the upcoming race at VIR. Temps in the mid-70s. Should be a good time!
