    Default JR Mitchell

This from the GMT Facebook page.

    Godspeed my friend.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

As I’m sure many of you know, JR passed away on Thursday January 9, 2025. He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in September and we were working on an announcement that he had planned to send out this week.

On his behalf, I am sharing it with all of you.

    Regards,
    Eileen Mitchell
    GMT Racing

This is awkward so let me dive right in as normal. In September I was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. There is no cure and the only treatment involved becoming a full time chemo patient with no recovery or good outcome on the horizon. I have opted for home hospice instead and will play the hand I’m dealt. My track days are most likely done.
As I step aside, Eileen will still run the office and Josh and Dean will run the shop with likely even more of a committee approach. With as many talented people as we have it is silly not to get all perspectives.
Looking back, I can’t believe how fortunate I’ve been to have worked with you all. The opportunities you have given me, the experiences and participation you have allowed me are far beyond anything I could have ever imagined. Working together we have built a team that excels and is internationally recognized. I hope you think we have given as good as we have received.
Thank you all and bless you all from the bottom of my heart.

    Thank you, Mike.

Although I never met J.R., I most certainly missed out.

I am supremely confident GMT will continue to celebrate success.

    Vaya con Dios, J.R.

    Default To JR Mitchell

Having been with JR at the track with his team for the past decade and a half it is hard to imagine being at a vintage event without him. From Watkins Glen to COTA and LRP his ‘horseshoe paddock’, dining experience and team colleagues was the ultimate place to hang out. Vintage racing will never be the same without him. Sincerest condolences to his family and team.

    We will miss you JR.

    Default JR Mitchell

My condolences to the Mitchell family. I first met JR at GMT a few years ago when I took my BT21C rear uprights to be refurbished. Jr has been very helpful to me providing material and advice. When I crossed paths with him at the track he has always had time to talk and say hello. I will miss his advice.
