I have seen discussions on whereto place arm restraints. However, my questions has to do with the part you sew onto the suit. Do you take a normal arm restraint and have it sewed onto the suit,or are there particular restraints for this purpose?

I'm assuming that those that have arm restraints sewed into their suits, bought SUITS that had that capability installed. Personally, I see no reason to do that. I'm perfectly happy with my restraints wrapped loosely around my wrists and tied to the sub straps of my harness. I can just BARELY get my arm up enough to 'point' or 'acknowledge' .. and JUST barely reach my camera to wipe the lens. The friction of the suit and restraint seem to keep them pretty much in place under all conditions.
YMMV,

I personally haven't found the need to sew them on. If you do that you will need metal clips to unclip from the suit.
Also, if you are going to sew. make sure you research and know the position.
I wear mine mid forearm. YMMV. May you never have to use them!
I’ve worked with drivers who wear them around their wrists (where they are actually effective), with drivers who meet the letter of the rule and wear them around their biceps; pointless), and with a guy who unclips them as he rolls off the false grid.
Sew-in is just a convenience, you decide where you want them :-)

Sewing-in primarily to prevent slippage, I'm assuming?
Try sewing-in Velcro to the suit & the restraints...then they can be removed / replaced if the suit or the restraint get damaged.
Just a thought.

The grid workers in our club (almost) always check. Usually when they line you up and then again at 5min they walk down the grid and everyone has to raise their arms.
If you're going to sew on the "B" type as being referred to in the other thread, I'd just stich a few places around and make sure I have a place to tuck the straps so you're not dangling everywhere.
On my second suit with D ring anchors attached to the arms. Love them and will never go back. So easy and convenient to just clip the arm restraints to the suit.
I think most series, besides SCCA, don't require them.
