    Default 1997 Gazelle / Lola

I have been considering buying this car and I was hoping to learn more about it as well as see where it might fit into SCCA or SCCA Vintage classes. Its a 97 Gazelle chassis, from what I have researched on line one of only two. The arms and suspension bits are Lola or Lola copies, engine is a Honda CBR 900 carb, liquid cooled. Looking at it as a track day and or vintage racer if their rules allow that.

Default Pix with body off will help

Some pix with the body removed would help.

Seeing some details of chassis, suspension (uprights in particular), engine bay, etc. could connect this car to the design drawings I made (& still have) for a car built by John Barker's Performance Development & Racing (PDR), Denver, CO in the late 1970s. I recall that it originally raced in SCCA with a Pinto 2000cc engine (Hewland trans) & probably as a B/SR. At some point in life, I also recall the Pinto engine was later turbocharged & made gobs of HP !

I also recall that the car was later sold to an SCCA racer in the St. Louis, MO area.

    My minor contribution ... It's a Ralt RT-5 (or RT-4) rear wing.

There was a Gazelle run by Don Sorich out of St. Louis in CSR in the early 80's It was powered by a Nissan engine in the 1982 Runoffs. I believe Don was some how associated with Grey Eagle distributing out of St. Louis which was the St. Louis county distributor for Budweiser and other A-B beers. As I recall the car was donated to St. Louis region SCCA and was auctioned off in 1983 or 1984. Bryan Cohn who is knows most of St. Louis region history of that time may be able to tell you if this is the same car.

I remember shop talk about this car, but think it was gone by my 1980 arrival.

I tried to post the link for the Gazelle chassis tab on sports racer network but it only lets me link to their home page. Searching under chassis and Gazelle provides a ton of helpful info.

This car is on different sale sites for different amounts of money, he wants it gone, $6500.

    Cool looking car!
If you're going to base out of Houston you might look into CVAR.

They're a bit restrictive on what they allow but it couldn't hurt to ask.
I'm guessing HSR and SVRA would find a place for it but you'll likely be in fast company.

    Default In Alabama

Seeing as you're in Alabama, you'd be running with HSR or SVRA. Can't say anything for HSR, but SVRA will find a spot for the car, just present the car as an 80's to 90's DSR Looking at the info on sports racer site, it looks like a safe car that you should be able to have fun with.
    Good Luck.
