Default How'd he get up there ??

My buddy working Turn 16 at the F1 Miami Gran Prix (the hard left that goes under the overpass at the start of the long back straight) told me this morning that they had to extricate a homeless person from the girders of the overpass before sessions could start.

When I ran Toyota Atlantic races at Montreal in the 90's, we were the only team camping out in the paddock. Saturday night before the F1 race was always a free for all with people breaking into the track all night and looking for hiding places.
The locked door handles on my 48' trailer/RV would rattle all night with people trying to get in and hide from security.

The homeless guy in Miami probably just wanted a good seat for the race.

Stan, do you mean this guy?

I was the yellow flagger at 16.

I don't know why the photos are rotated. Taken at 9:46am.

6 more tried to gain access just prior to the start.

    Nah, they’re turbos. ;-)

There was a quite special spot to go deaf at in Phoenix for the F1 races, in the V10/V12 days. It was one of those 10x10-foot glass entryways designed for window shopping, and right at the full-throttle point of the entry turn onto the fastest straight. We failed to not try it out.

I was in the city of Phoenix grandstand on the inside of T12 in 1990
The cars exiting T12 were deafening but the open bar and full catering made up for it.

Dave! If you were at 16 then you know my buddy from Lotus Orlando....Don Byrd. He sent me a group pic of 16's workers and mentioned the guy that had to be 'extricated'

Don was the blue flagger at 16. He had my back. I enjoyed working with Don.

Sadly, Don, and the other 35 blue flaggers at this event were "fired" on Sunday morning.

From the first training session on Thursday morning, through the following morning briefings, those with the blue flags assignments were instructed to blue flag a F1 car only when the faster car was within 1.2 seconds of the slower car, Not 1.3 seconds, not 1.4 seconds, but exactly 1.2 seconds.

Then during the race day briefing, an official made the surprise announcement that the TSP panels would take over the duties of a blue flagger, and that the cloth blue flags were to be put away after the Carrera Cup race. Computers are now taking over the duties of displaying a blue "flag." Don had my back for the F1 race, and was prepared to display the SC board or the VSC board should the boards need to be displayed.
