    Default Need shipping advice

H i guys' I'm in need of some unusual shipping advice. My daughter has inherited a grandfather clock from her Grandmother. It twas hand made by her grandmothers father so it's old and has a lot of sentimental value. Anyhow the situation is, it needs to be shipped from Indianapolis to Seattle. It needs to be crated up and they have removed the pendulum & weights. So my questions are, anybody know a company/business that can ship such a delicate item like this? I know that high a quality crate build is essential in protecting it while in transit so that leaves the guys & trucks. The clock is about 6ft tall - 10in deep - 15in wide, so the crate will be somewhat larger. Also what kind of guide lines should a person use for determining the value? Since it could be considered a family heirloom, does that enter into this in any way? Any advice on how to handle this would be much appreciated . Thanks a lot

I would call a grandfather clock company and ask for shipping advice.
given the value is sentimental then replacement value for insurance purposes is somewhat of a moot point.
and as long as it is not lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair then you're mostly winning.

but for sure, get advice from people that move them for a living.

agreed, I'd call a local clock repair shop and ask if they can coordinate for a fee or advise.

You could check this company out if you haven't already. https://www.cratersandfreighters.com/

When I was a city driver I used to picked up from this company. I think they are nationwide and the stuff was packed and crated nicely. No idea what they charged though.

    Default InstaPak expandable foam

This solution is one of the best to safely ship delicate items. You might call them and ask who utilizes their products in the Indy area and then contact them for a quote:

Hi Guys, following up. Sent the daughter the link to Cratersandfreighters. She called and is waiting to hear back. They have offices in Indy & Tacoma Wa. So it would be fairly easy for her to pick it up in Tacoma. I'll post again when she hears back about costs & stuff.
    Thanks

I'll be interested to hear how you go with this, as I may need to find a company to ship some bodywork panels to the UK for me.

Hi Guys, daughter heard back from https://www.cratersandfreighters.com/. To box/crate and ship to curbside at there house in Seattle from Indy, is about $1,188.00 plus insurance. If they carry it over the threshold of the front door and unpack and take the packaging and crate back it's an additional $1,075.00! Shipping company is must not be really interested in doing that! Anyhow, I thought thats sounds pretty reasonable seeing as the crate would be good size since it's a grandfather clock. No idea about the time frame involved yet, as I hear more I'll post more info.

I used them to ship my WEST DSR to Australia they built a 2-deck crate so they could roll the car in on the lower section and put the spare body and 2 extra sets on wheels and tires on the upper section, they did a GREAT job and was very easy to deal with.

The daughter has decided to use https://www.cratersandfreighters.com/ to ship her clock. Thanks a lot Darren, appreciate the input. No time frame yet on when it will ship, but it makes it way easier for her to get it crated up & shipped. I'll post again when it's all over with to give an answer to how it turns out. Could be awhile.
    Thanks
