It is with a heavy heart, but I have decided to sell my venerable Caldwell D-13, a car that has been my companion and co-conspirator for many a racing memory over the past 47 years.
I purchased the body and frame kit from Autodynamics at the end of 1975, but it wasn't until August of 1978 that I could finally afford to finish it and did my first driver's school at Nelson Ledges. I have all the log books, race records, original assembly manual and a few pieces of sales literature from Autodynamics. It retains the original body and tail piece. Also included in the sale is the original seat, fuel tank, Faria tach, and S-W oil temp gauge.
I am selling it as a roller (no engine). It has a Pastore 1:22 short box and Pastore coated exhaust system that is in good shape. The fire bottle is SCCA legal, but the belts are out of date. It also has a fee-free transponder and through-the-nose cooling.
Spares: Extra nose and tail, complete spare exhaust system, V-W front beam, many wheels, set of older mounted Hoosier rains, fan shroud for vintage (3rd in Vintage class at 35th B-day party, 1998 Elkhart Lake). and many more misc. VW and Vee parts.
Besides the previous years' SCCA competitions, I have run this car in the Challenge Cup Series since 2013 and as recently as the CCS October, 2020 event at PIRC. It was still fairly competitive even that year (best finish 5th out of 20 cars at Nelson in the rain). With a decent engine this D-13 would be a great starter car for a novice or it would also be perfect for the 60th Birthday events to be held next year.
The photos posted show both tails installed - one is custom-built aluminum.
I am asking $5,500.00 USD and I am hoping it finds a good home.
