I love the RT5 and the way it handles (and the way it looks) but am considering purchasing a Formula Atlantic, provided I sell the RT5.
Before I purchased the RT5 in 2020, the car had not been raced for a number of years and needed some tender loving care. In the past couple years John Anderson Racing and Ethan Shippert (Shippert Racing Services—Sonoma Raceway) have gone through the car (top to bottom) refining and upgrading the RT5 to the clean, tidy, reliable car it is today. Ethan Shippert does top notch work and his attention to detail is unrivaled. Consequently, the RT5 is one of the nicest you will find. Those of you that know Ethan, or know of his work, can vouch to the quality of Ethan’s work.
When I purchased the RT5 I was told the engine was fresh and just under 2.0 liters (however no documentation). Since then, the RT5 has been tested on several occasions at Sonoma Raceway in 2019 and 2020, and raced one weekend in 2021 and three weekends in March/April/May 2022 (HMSA, Masters, and CSRG at Laguna Seca).
Asking $49,000, price is flexible. I know that there are Super Vees that would initially be less expensive to purchase but they come with numerous issues and costs that cannot not be known or revealed until the car has been raced competitively a time or two or three. The following is a list of some of the more significant recent upgrades that have been made to the car: new fuel cell, battery, fire suppression system, throwout bearing, clutch, safety belts/harness through 2025, new brake rotors, shocks, water and oil temperature gauges, water pump, fuel pump, fuel injectors, oil lines, fuel lines, headers/tail pipe/muffler, new front wing, new paint, and a new Quicksilver electronic fuel injection system, etc.
The Ralt comes with a few spares:
• New Jongbloed Series 214 race wheels, 8”x13” (front) and 10”x13” (rear)
• Avon tires, 8.2” x 20” x 13” (front) and 10.0” x 22.0” x 13” (rear) (fresh tires)
• Spare throwout bearing
• Original Ralt OEM Marston fuel cell (35 years old—1985-2020)
• Fox adjustable shocks with remote reservoir
• Various corner suspension parts
• A few Mark 5 gear sets
