    Default March 712/722 For Sale

    March 712/722 for sale. SOLD
March 712 F2 originally a works 712- M, built for JP Jarier. At the same time, a 712-M was being built for Niki Lauda and as his car was not ready for the start of the season, Lauda ran the Jarier car in one or two tests/races. (ref the March book).
At the end of the 71 season, the Jarier car was sold to J Joliat in Switzerland who ran it in European hillclimb events with some success. Updates and some structural repair work saw the car rebuilt using 722 specifications, requiring a modified or new tub, by Horag Engineering in Switzerland in 1974, installing the chassis tag #722-00. (Horag appointed as March distributors). The factory shuffling of plates 712M- 9 , 10 and 11 at the end of the ’71 season, not uncommon for March rebuilds of the day and March sales records suggests that the most likely original plate for this car was 712M-11. Horag continued to look after the car for much of its hillclimb career.
The car was brought from a collector in France by the current owner in 2001 and brought to the US to run in historic racing.
Once here, the car underwent an extensive rebuild over a few years resulting in what is likely the nicest example of the 722 in the US. The rebuild included complete dismantling, rebuild of the front section of the monocoque, reskinning of the tub, fabrication and plating of new wishbones, upgrade/update of the safety equipment, fabrication of 22” front wings (original 13” wings retained as spares) and period correct cosmetics.. New fabricated aluminum radiators. About twelve years ago, the car was run at two SVRA race weekends, Road America and Mid Ohio, for testing and sorting. The car was then decommissioned and stored for several years when the owner took an overseas posting for his work.
On returning to the US for retirement, the owner has recommissioned the car and now presents it for sale.
The car runs a 2 litre Cosworth BDG with a Hewland FT 200 transmission. The BDG was rebuilt and serviced by VDS racing engines, Indianapolis and has a new block – just two race weekends since new. The transmission has been stripped down and rebuilt. All internals, pinion, gears , bearings - are like new condition.
Everything is in as new condition. The new owner will only need to update out of date safety items to pass tech inspection. The car has been started and run since recommissioning, now just needs race sorting. All work has been completed by established racecar engineering professionals.
The car comes with limited spares including:
    One set of aftermarket wheels
    Some suspension parts
Jigs for the fabrication of the front upper and lower control (A) arms
    Original 11” front wings
Small selection of Hewland gears (the transmission is currently set up for Mid Ohio and there are a couple of spare gears used for a Road America set-up.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a beautiful example of the March 712/722 at less than half the cost of the restoration. It’s a classic 70’s European F2 with a complex, interesting history. $60K OBO David Irwin irwin_eng using hotmail 303-653-5550
