Lynx B
Definitely a Lynx or Lynx clone. Could be a modified B, or C, or copy. Judging by the components, body, etc, It looks like early 80s spec, perhaps not seen the track in 40 years. Most Lynx now have been backdated to specs that make them legal for vintage racing. Basically, that means nose, tail, cooling system, and rear suspension. It would have some value, either backdated to vintage, updated, or as a donor car. Perhaps if you tell what part of Chicago you are in, someone local to you can help you ID it and help you sell it.

Agreed. The engine cover is not stock to a B, so your idea of “modified, or a Lynx C” seems right.
I don’t recall that tail on any Lynx, but may be wrong and forgetting the stock C engine cover. But the rest is pure Lynx B.
The car itself looks really familiar, did it run in Central Division?

It looks like a Lynx B with a zero roll conversion. Still has the original trailing arms.
I remember this from Jim Schings web site but cannot find a picture in the Internet way back site.
I think that was the speedway tail - maybe Sherman E can chime in.
It is going to have to be completely gone through but looks like a solid car.
Easy to convert back to vintage with some bodywork changes and zero roll - but would make an excellent Regional car as is.
Just have to think of fuel cell fire system, belts etc, but that goes anyway to get on track.

Early 80s Lynx B with Kazmerak speedway tail and early Zink Zero roll suspension
Great candidate to convert back to vintage specs.
Already has Zbar mount and lower exhaust.
The car is in Rockford, IL. The person that asked me to help doesn't have any interest in the car and was hoping I could help him find a good owner. I will run up to see it within the next few days and see if I can find a log book or any serial numbers on the car. I will also get pics of any and all spares.. Thanks for your help!
1980 Lynx (Caracal) B.
Originally owned & run by Darrin Patriquen (of Minooka, Illinois) in Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs & CenDiv SCCA.
Last I heard of this car it was rusting away in storage and for sale by Mike Siganos.

P.S. That's a speedway tail by Dave Kazmierczak (Falcon Racing of South Bend, Indiana).
The owner has sold this to a local person (Chicagoland) who is going to restore it. Thanks for your help
