I posted a longer version up on Facebook but figured I'd put it here as well.
This past weekend I did another vintage race with the Novakar.
I'd put fresh top end on the AMW motor and it was bit fussy from the get go. The short of it is the car kept fouling plugs while idling or driving slow. I eventually leaned out the low speed screws on the SuperBN carbs. As a precaution we put fresh plugs in it before every session. The car actually fouled a plug on the warm up lap for Saturday's race so I only got to race on Sunday. The car ran great every session on Sunday.
I ended up 9th out of 12 cars; the field consisted of CSR, DSR, S2, FC & FSV (air cooled and watercooled). I get totally hammered on the the straights but I am able to stay close in the corners. Considering the tires had 6 autocrosses, a test day and a race on them I thought the cornering speed was decent.
There is still time to be had in the car, even with the AMW motor. I'd made a seat insert, my torso now stay put but my legs still flop around, so the seat needs to extend a bit further forward. I made some friction discs and they work better than the worn ones but they could be better.
The back of the car feels like it's moving around in long corners; this could also be the car catching the pavement seems but regardless I need to investigate it.
The lap times are 7-8 seconds off of where I think they should be (I'm using the Formula Fords as a gauge) but the car is really fun to drive. Installing the Rotax 494 sooner than later will rectify a good chunk of this.
Below is the start of Sunday's race; I'm the next to last car going into turn 1
