I wan an auction that was a FV project. It came with a rebuilt trans.
I have no idea what gears are in it. I guess I have to pull it
apart to find out. Is there any other way??

Maybe like I did checking a Camaro rear end when I bought it - engage a gear and turn the input and count how many turns you need to turn the output a full turn.
Or assuming it's stock, look in the drain plugs and count the teeth on the main gear and third to see if it's long or short.
assume it's 1:1 in 4th....doing the turns in 4th, should give the ring gear ratio...then do same in all the other gears and figure the ratios backwards using that final ratio in the calcs. to get each gear.... If diff is open, then make sure both sides turns "together" so that doesn't mess up your numbers.

Morning,
if you truly have a FV transmission this is what you should have:
final drive ratios 4.125 (Long Box) and 4.375 (Short Box)
1.22 third gear and 0.89 fourth is used
Hope this helps out some.

The trans is NOT in the car. No axles, etc
Have you checked near the starter? Sometimes they are stamped with the ratio.

Turn the trans upside down, remove the two drain plugs.
Use either paint of a marker to mark one tooth and then count the teeth on the ring gear. On the nose cone end, count the teeth on 3 and 4. If you can not turn the gears , remove the nose cone and turn the nut by hand or wrench.
Either compare the numbers that you can find in the GCR or send them to me and I will tell you what gears.

Dietmar I will do that.
Thanks
Ok, I finally got around to counting the teeth on the gears.
2nd - 40
3rd - 35
4th - 29
Is this stock, short or long box.
You still will need to count the teeth on the ring gear ( under the center drain plug) to determine short or long.
And , as an afterthought, the numbers that you provided do not match anything that I am familiar with.
