Default Engines that fall outside the FA Spec Table

My car was homologated for use with spec table E but I was wondering if engines outside the table were allowed. For example: in P1, only 4 cylinder four stroke and 6 cylinder 2 stroke are allowed to run but FA doesn’t specify that in their ruleset. So could one with a v6 or maybe even a V8 be allowed to run on FA given they were detuned appropriately?

I am not trying to speak for the CRB, so understand they might disagree with me completely. My guess is that they would not be likely to allow 6 ot 8 cylinder engines (of even relatively small displacement) because of the difficulties in try to restrict them in a way that would retain any semblance of competitiveness with the current permitted engines. (For example, torque curves are going to look very different.)

That said, the only way to get a definitive answer is to propose such an engine and ask the CRB to classify it. They will either give you an outright "No" or, if they think it is worth pursuing, they would likely to ask you to submit dyno information with a restrictor that would bring about some reasonable balance.

Go to www.crbscca.com to submit your request.

Thanks Dave for the response. I also believe they would consider on a case by case basis. Especially since the class needs more entrants. They’ve recently been propped up by formula Mazda and f1000.
