    Default Corona Cup Event #14 - 6/30/2020 USF2000 2017 @ COTA

So, we had a pretty strong turnout last night so I may have jumped the gun on the decision to go on a Summer hiatus so I'm going to keep it going and we'll take it week by week! If interest drops, we can decide what to do then.

For next week's ApexSpeed.com Corona Cup Event we will be at Circuit of the Americas!! I must admit that I'm not a huge fan of the track layout, but it's an iconic track that we'll need to run. From what I've been able to gather, this particular version is the most accurate and most detail, but please provide any feedback if you have any first hand knowledge. Come on out and race with us!

    Some things to remember:

Remember to please use your real first and last name before joining the server. By default, rFactor2 will use your Steam account name, but you can edit your name next to your "Nickname" within rFactor2 in the upper right corner of the landing page where you select your option for single or multi-player.

It is suggested that everyone log into the Discord channel for chat. Discord is a Skype type of application used by gamers. You'll need to install and enter the ApexSpeed.com Sim Racing room linked below. https://discordapp.com/

Please bind a key for "Push to talk" in Discord so that others don't have to hear unnecessary noise you broadcast to the room. We don't need to hear that you screwed up, your shifters clicking, your simulated wind noise, or that your dog wants to go outside. Instructions for doing this are here: https://appuals.com/enable-configure-push-talk-discord/

Now that the group is getting bigger, please refrain from unnecessary voice chat during qualifying and the race. Some of us can't pat their head and rub their belly at the same time, so please be considerate to that and only use voice chat during qualifying or racing for race related discussion like alerting people you're pulling out of the pit lane, a request to restart a race (like we had last night), or a huge pileup in T1, etc...

    Server Name: ApexSpeed
    Passw: rfactor2

Driving aids allowed: Invulnerability, Auto Blip, Auto Clutch

Discord Room: https://discord.gg/PnYjbmh - Please bind a key for "Push to talk".

Please subscribe to the car and track in your Steam account before loading rFactor2 and you'll automatically get the car and track installed when you join the server.

    Default Corona Cup Event #14 - 6/30/2020 USF2000 2017 @ COTA

Thank you Keith and fellow ApexSpeed sim racers. Last night was my first race with the group and I enjoyed it. Was really surprised to see how close the field was at the end of qualifying (WOW) - several cars covered by less than .2 seconds. There are some really quick racers in the group!

Looking forward to racing with the group as much as possible from now on.

Glad you had fun, Aaron! It is great fun and something to look forward to week after week. I just wished we retained racers who come out and run with us. Having a field of 20 cars would be awesome! As you've found out, it does take practice to be at the front so it's incredibly hard to jump in and win. As shown last night, our league ringer, Michai Stephens jumped in without any practice for qualifying and although he did set fast time of the race, he was back in the pack without any preparation beforehand.

    Keith:

My initial impressions seem to be that Mt. Tremblant track surface had "WAY" more grip!

Jut going to take a LOT of practice to go quick...

has anyone figured out how to make the cockpit side mirrors DISAPPEAR?? They are blocking view of the apexes in at least 3 critical turns...

I haven't needed to remove the mirrors and can't recall if it's possible. There is a key (either 3 or F3) that I believe is the default button for mirror displays where if you keep pressing it, it will cycle through the different available mirrors you can use.

The 3 key changes what's shown in the mirrors .. including NOTHING, but the mirror is still there blocking the view. I also can't find a way to MOVE them .. other than by moving the SEAT and that's almost insignificant.. but I might go try that again.

You could raise yourself up in the seat that should help.

Time for VR. Unless you run with no mirrors in real life... what's behind you is only losing anyways!

Yeah, I don't think moving the mirrors is an option. You may want to look into changing your field of view.

I am already as high as I can get, but I moved the seat back almost as far as it would go.. now, I can at least get a GLIMPSE of the ORANGE apex bump for a millisec as I approach the turns.

Are we playing by F1 track limit rules (hardline), or by Indycar rules (almost none) ??

I don't really know either rule set in any detail. Let's just say that if there are any blatant repeated shortcuts being taken that there will be penalties.

It's not 'shortcutting' anything that's in question .. the Indy cars used ALL of the asphalt out there at track out. Especially T19.

Oh well... we'll see to night
I still don't see how YOU can see the apexes .. or don't need to ...

I went back and re-watched the 2019 Indy Car footage and I'm thinking that wasn't really an intended race surface when the track was designed. The way the track is designed in the sim, it's a risk going off track with how the orange kerbs and other models are done on the track. I would say that I would lean more towards F1 than Indycar in that regard, but I'm not going to babysit it. Bottom line is to try to stay on the intended track...
