Default Legality of 2010 helmet in 2020

Is a Snell 2010 helmet yet legal in 2020?.....for this as last year or is it toast?

Should be good until January 1, 2022. Check your series rules. 2020 helmets won’t even be available until late 2020 or early 2021. New standards released in October.

IIRC for SCCA, each Snell version is viable for at least TWO new 'series versions'. IOW, a 2005 helmet is good until 2015 versions become "readily available". A 2010 would be valid until the 2020 versions become "readily available".. which MOSTLY means that each helmet version is acceptable for (probably) 11 years. Occasionally the new version gets delayed for whatever reason and the next version is not 'readily available' until ... 'some time later', so the older helmet remains viable until whatever that time is.

This is, of course, for an UNDAMAGED early version helmet.

January 2020 SCCA GCR says SA2010 or later. If you race elsewhere check their rules.
