This could be interesting. Coming to theaters mid-November:

What will be interesting will be to see just how true to the real story they stayed.
So far, though, good reviews.

I'll try to temporarily suspend my beliefs enough to try and enjoy it. It does look like it might be good (but the wrestling/fight scene on someone's front lawn worries me).

Actually, the whole movie worries me, based on just how poorly Hollywood has treated racing in the past ( Days of Thunder and Driven, along with too many others).
And in IMAX!
don't expect documentary authenticity
"Smash Palace" was the best ever!
Just got back. A lot of details wrong. A lot of good details too. Racing action not overly convincing to me. Many details of the Ford interaction with Ferrari and then Shelby I have never heard before so I wonder if it is true.
The most glaring error is showing Ferrari at the Lemans race. He never attended the races. Included no doubt to add interest.
I did enjoy it very much. Definitely worth seeing though.
I did very much appreciate that the movie made Miles the central character.
I also liked the fact that Henry 2 even though a hardened dictator could be smart enough to change his mind.

If you look at it as a tribute to Ken Miles then it is a wonderful film.
He truly deserved the recognition. End of discussion.

Just got back, found it entertaining, if not exactly accurate. Soundtrack was fantastic.
I haven't seen it yet.
How much weight is Lola given in the plot?
The movie is more about the relationship between Shelby and Miles than anything else. I really enjoyed the movie.
So they don't start with the failure in 1964 before Shelby was given the project?
Also, no spoilers - I don't want to know if Ken Miles makes it or not until I see it.
Let's put it this way.
What Henry Ford and his VP Leo Beebe did to Miles makes me want to take my Kent out of my FF and put in a Honda!
Apparently, Leo Beebe was not actually the a-hole he is portrayed to be in the movie. He didn't care much for Ken Miles, but was as surprised as anyone when his idea to have the cars cross the line together screwed Miles. He didn't want Miles to be denied the win. There are several articles about it online.
Just saw it. VERY entertaining. But yes, as always, the driving was absurd, total Hollywood.
Just saw the movie. Two thumbs up.
Interesting who got out of the red GT40 at the end of the movie.

The movie 'Smash Palace' is mentioned above (its 1981). Directed by New Zealander Roger Donaldson (Worlds fastest Indian etc). There is a great chase scene of an Atlantic RT1 driven by Steve Millen actually driven on narrow country roads in NZ. The clip is labelled F5000 (wrongly). Judging by the gear changes etc, I would guess he is doing 230-240kph. And great driving on the dirt too. Enjoy. Its a great movie too.

And the Ralt will look a lot less like a Dinky toy.![]()
Agreed there is no shortage of Hollywood cliches or inaccurate dramatization, but as a piece of pop culture it is absolutely good for our sport.
i learned that winning races is all about shifting gears more than the other guy, and stare downs at 220mph, gotta have the stare down to intimidate the other driver, and conversations with the other drivers as you overtake them....
other than that... my thoughts. Matt Damon? could not have picked a worse image to represent Shelby, but - he is a very good actor and pulls it off, even though its still matt damon, in a role, named carroll shelby... works better than expected but still... matt damon??
christain bale has a more of a blank slate in regards to Ken miles image to work with and as another very good actor - is unusually fun, cheery, and likable. no batman... completely different persona. well done.
the guy who plays Lee Iacocca looks exactly like the actor who played "gus Grissom" in the movie the right stuff....
even though im skeptical that Ford II cried in the car... it WAS a very provoking scene that communicated the story not about him crying. but about his legacy of his father, passion of ford cars...
i'm at a loss to the whole sub plot about 7,000 rpm determining who you are as a person?? - but... whatevs. Beebe is just a little too evil? Miles the only guy that fixed the ford gt? bla bla bla hollywood drama.
very well produced film, good drama story, ok pacing, car racing scenes were weak and minimal, kinds seems like they wrote 10, 60 seconds scenes and then built a movie around it. it mostly works. i don't feel like i need my money back, it was fun, entertaining, not boring, not stupid, B+ similar to "rush" anyone who sits down to direct a racing movie should go back, dissect the racing scenes in "grand prix" (and lemans ) and just accept that Frankenhiemer was the man and follow his lead.

I didn't go in expecting a documentary. I knew there would be Hollywood license taken. I had read up a bit on how they made it, in particular the driving sequences, so I knew what to expect. I hoped it would be better than Racing in the Rain.
Loved it! With a bit of tempered expectation under my belt I thought it was awesome. Like Robby, I wanted to go punch out Beebe but have also heard he was made into more of an a-hole for the drama. Okay... got it. Very, very happy to see so much about Miles.. very deserving.. as well as the father-son relationship. Anyone know what became of the son?
The Imax sound was also awesome. Go to one if you can.
Was Miles' role in the development of the car overblown? It was definitely played up, but the "Pops" character also had some good stuff up his sleeve.
As much as I appreciate Dempsey as an old-guy-late-into-the-game racer (like me! but without the $$$$) this movie made Racing in the Rain look like grocery store romance crap.
I will buy it once it comes out on DVD. Now I gotta go watch Smash Place!

(from an article written a few days ago by someone with the same thought)
Peter is alive today, approx. 70, and attended the movie premier.
"From what limited information is available online, it appears that Peter followed his father into the car business, and actually oversaw the development and production of ten Ken Miles Limited Edition 427 Cobra replicas. He is also the executive administrator of vintage car collection valued at over $80 million. Peter was also an off-road racer himself."
Nice to know.
Wish I had seen it with my son, so I'm gonna buy the movie and make that happen if it leaves theaters before Thanksgiving.

Horrendous in car shots.... Miles would have destroyed the gearbox earlier with those "manly" shifts. Also, I always waited until I was at full speed and then put on my sunglasses. And at 220 mph as Miles took the time to reflect on the situation he was in, to casually drive one handed and take his sunglasses off. Oh yea, I often found as I went down the straight at top speed all I needed was to shift down a gear and push the accelerator even more....geeesh, will they ever do it better than McQueen?

Entertaining, absolutely loved the fight scene.
The racing shots in Grand prix and LeMans were better by far but the actual racing videos mixed in were a big part of the realism.

Enjoyable movie! I wasn't expecting a documentary going in and I'm glad to have learned the Hollywood version of the story and learning of Ken Miles' role in the GT40. With my dad having built 3 Shelby Cobra kit cars as a kid and being a distributor for Contemporary Cobra, it was personally near and dear to me and I was glad to see it with him as well as my son. Say all you want about "The Art of Racing in the Rain" and "Ford vs Ferrari" although they should have kept the euro name of "LeMans '66", having two racing related movies hit the big screen in the same year was an absolute (and unusual) treat. I hope there are more stories to be told that would be interesting enough for public consumption and destined for the big screen.
