I jusy got off the phone with tech help from Crane, wonderfully helpful people. As was discussed before the 700 series MUST have resistance across the coil, or use the standard Bosch blue coil. The 3000 does not use resistance from the coil as it reads the coil voltage and will adjust charge to coil automatically.
Both systems will operate properly with the blue coil, BUT the 3000 will not be as efficient as it would be with a non resistance type coil.
The tech guy also warned me about mounting of the coil. If the coil is not vaccum filled then there will be an air gap above the windings when mounted upright, but if laid on its side will expose some of the windings and lead to problems. The vaccum filled type is about 97% filled and should be ok to lay on side.

    Hope this helps,
    John

P.S. Crane tech line # 386-258-6174, seems this has kinda been a hot topic for these guys there as well.

Thanks John. I assume this was an extension of our conversations the other day. I'd only have to ask what is there definition of not as efficient?? Does this mean that the spark is not has hot, not as long etc. etc. And does this effect come into play more with the unit used on a V8 rather than not taxed as hard here on the four banger? Interesting note on the coil too. Never knew this.
