    Default Data system

I'm looking for something basic to monitor the vitals of my formula ford. I don't need a fancy system, looking for the following:

    - oil pressure
    - oil temp
    - water temp
    - rpm
    - speed
    - gps

I don't need the system to necessarily come with all the sensors for these things, just to be capable of monitoring them. I prefer an AIM system, but it doesn't have to be.

    Thanks in advance.

Following. I would also like replace my Pi System 2 with a simple system that includes GPS.

It's too bad AiM crippled the MXL Strada when they came out with the new models. Cost of entry is now well north of $2,000.

AIM EVO4 can be had for much less than 2000

I am planning to sell my AIM Mychron 3 XG Log after the Atlanta Majors. Current sensors are:

    RPM (low voltage filter)
    RPM (high voltage filter)
    water temp
    (2) EGT
    (2) Speed (measures drive axle RPM and system converts to MPH)
    timing beacon receiver

Includes timing beacon (no GPS). I would like to get $400 for the complete package. PM me if interested.

The Strada systems have always been non logging and priced to reflect that. An MXL2, 2 temps, 1 pressure, and 3 patch cables would be $2,355 retail. Evo4 with a G Dash would be $1,765.

No sensors, no logging. We are talking barebones GPS here.

The EVO4 package does seem like a okay deal at $1,700. GPS and accelerometer included, so you get basic data with no sensors.

Make me an offer? Any offer? The dash is really quite good, the logger powerful but a little outdated.

If logging oil pressure is not essential you may want to consider using the mycron5 2t system intended for karts. It has internal gps and costs around $600

This might be an issue for formula cars, depending on where the dash is mounted. The GPS antenna molded into the MyCron dash unit may not be able to get a clear view of the sky.

It does say that the MyCron5 supports the expansion unit, so that means all 712 and 719 sensors would be on the table (including oil pressure). Some AiM diagrams even show the older GPS antenna...

Also note that the MyCron5 is battery powered. This may or may not be a good thing.

So has anyone here tried one of the NEW MYCHRON 5 units? I gave the tech line a call and they were pushing me towards one of there more expense units saying that the 5 will not work on our cars. So anyone tried one yet?

    Thanks for the help.

I run the MyChron5 on my karts. If you have a mechanical OilP sensor, it will work for you.

The thing is fantastic. And the battery lasts hours on end.

I run the smaller sport thing in a couple of my other cars and its nice too. But I like the 5 a lot more. And for $499 with 1 temp...you cannot really go wrong.

Grassroots MotorSports p131 shows the new MXm dash apparently on show at PRI.

    GPS Datalogger, budget friendly, color.
Anyone know what ports it has?

It will have 4 analog inputs. But, it's not due until end of year, so not an option for people right now.

Just because the MyChron 5 was brought up, I thought I would post this for those who mentioned it & anyone who stumbles on this thread....
I had looked into the MyChron5 unit for my FV & emailed AIM about it. Here is their response:

Me: I need to read Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Cylinder Head Temp, maybe Exhaust Gas Temp.

AIM: Because the MyChron was made for karts, the only pressure sensor that it is compatible with is brake pressure, so oil pressure will not be possible. You can run the three temperatures though. You will need the MyChron5 2t and you can run cylinder head, and exhaust temp directly to the MyChron5, and you will need a MyChron Expansion box to be able to get the oil temp.

    To add:

The two port expansion box for the Micron 5 is only $60.

I run the 5 with an expansion box and it really is potent.

oh, is that the expansion box you actually need? I was under the impression it was the $250 Channel Expansion unit... that works in your with all the sensors we want, Joe?

One of the most useful aspects of data acquisition is the ability to share data with fellow competitors so keep that in the consideration matrix.Spend a little more up front for a system that is more common and the data easily shared.

    Matt,
I am not much of an expert on the AIM stuff, I usually just call the office in the South East. But that is the one they had me buy. I run a camera and the throttle sensor off the can extension.

Not to hijack the thread...but I would imagine a pressure sensor is a pressure sensor. Can you run the Oil sensor and just have it show on the dash as brake?

All of the AiM data is the same format, so you can compare it regardless of what logger you have.

As to the pressure sensors, you could put a different one in, but it would not read correct on the dash (they are .0-4.5 volts with readings from 0-max psi).
