Default Reverse Search an Email address

    https://www.whatismyip.com/how-to-tr...-mail-address/

Here is a website on how to trace the origin of an email. It has a bunch of different traces available for different accounts, gmail, yahoo, and so on. What you do is grab the properties of the email address, drop it into the tool and it comes up with the IP address along with the longitude and latitude. You can drop those in google and it will give you a very close proximity of where it was sent from.

It said my email is owned by Bryanna Ujifusa in Salt Lake City. Not even close!

Seems to work reasonable well on several email addresses that I checked. In order to check your OWN, you'll need to send yourself an email and analyze it after you receive it back. In my case, it showed a location about 50 miles from me - the location of the main office for my ISP.

I'm in telecom for small ISP - this sort of search will likely work pretty well for the large companies, but may not for smaller ones. Lots of 'moving parts' involved that can make it tricky.

It should be accurate for the country (although, both Canada/US use ARIN, so may have some cross over as Corey found).

I have to retract my previous comment. I pasted my email address into what I assume was a paid ad on that site that looked like a link. Oops. Great, more spam coming my way now...

I did the proper process with copying the email header, and it now says I'm in Modesto, CA. So it looks like it tells you where the Hotmail or Yahoo or Gmail servers are located. It's definitely not foolproof if they use one of the big free webmail companies. Darn spammers!
