    Default Chevron B-56 Auction

Hit a machine shop auction a week or two ago, tucked away in a back room was a Chevron B-56 #82-03 FA car.

Tub seems intact as does the body work except the top engine cover appears to be missing. Front suspension is there but it looks like some of the rear bits are gone. Found brake rotors but no calipers. About 12 wheels of various widths. No engine or gear box. Last tech sticker date on the roll bar was 1990 or so.

The chap now running Chevron says there were 2 built, they were the last cars built before Chevron went bankrupt and was sold.

The auction website is http://www.tmadallas.com/, they had it listed as an "old Indy car body". Contact them for details.

    That's the one.

In the photos a red Lola can be seen, it was sold some time ago. I suspect that some of the pieces missing from the Chevron were taken with the Lola bits.

    Default Chevron

That car was run out of St. Louis in the mid 80's. Last time I saw it running was 88 or maybe summer of 89. Tom Watkins probably did not drive the car to its full potential - but it was well cared for in the day. I don't know when he sold the car.

Current bid is $4,000, seems like a lot to me for an incomplete car.

    Auction closes tomorrow.

Auction closed this morning, winning bid $13,400. Looks like there were 3 bidders; 1 dropped out at 7,700, the others took it up.

For a car missing parts and no engine/gear box that seems like a lot to me.

Why would someone pay $13 k for that? Real Chevrons died in 1978 when designer/builder Derek Bennett was killed. Just two years ago, I sold a similar condition 1971 Chevron Atlantic for $3000, guess that was a mistake. Tony Southgate did a couple of Chevron designs but he was long gone by the B56. I might have seen this very car at IRP or Gateway and I remember it looked like it had about five designers working on it who all disagreed! I would rather have a same year Ralt RT-4
