    Default Roll Cage Rules

Very nice fabrication shown on the Diamond F1st chassis shown in another thread, but the chassis doesn't appear to be compliant with the rules for roll cage braces. Specifically 9.4.5.C.1, where the attachment of the brace is not triangulated back to the roll bar or lower frame tube. The rules seem clear but am I missing something? Is it homologated this way?

That's a good question for a PM or email.

I would not depend on the SCCA homologation process to guaranty a completely legal or safe car. I doubt more than one employee reviews the homologation papers. I would also question his credentials to perform such a task.

Honestly, it is not clear what the benefit of homologation is, as a car can be legally changed after approval.

    Default Roll Cage Bracing

The chassis has not been homologated yet. After reviewing the rules I believe you are correct. Looks like I will need to add a couple of small braces under the diagonal support brace for the main hoop.

I am also not sure regarding the front roll hoop as one rule states that the front roll hoop must have bracing "near it's top" to protect the drivers legs and another rule says that the bracing must be within 6" of the top, which the existing bracing is. How do you define "Near it's top"

The 6" rule doesn't apply to the front hoop braces, and I think it's good the rule is written as is. There is leeway for gauges, etc. that would be difficult to package if the rule said the braces must be at the top.
Again, very nice workmanship on the chassis!

The "within 6 inches of the top" rule applies to the main roll hoop and you have this one well covered. Nice work on the chassis!

For space concerns I will probably just add a triangular "Gusset" rather than a tube, back to the main roll hoop.

Thanks for pointing this out. Much better to fix it now then to show up at the track and not be able to race.
