    Default Replay XD

    Hey Pat,

I haven't personally used this system, but I have heard good things about it and it's pretty affordable.

Chase cam is still a very, very, very good option. You can get it refurb from Chasecam for $400 plus camera.

The built in Gsensor starts recording. Stops on its own. I just start the car. No switch, taking out the camera, etc. Always works. The automatic function makes it so worth while.

I have screwed around with a lot of different setups and the Chasecam is the first I have been happy with. (I have not had a VIO 1.5 so I can't comment.)

    Default cameras / mounts

The camera / mount failure is a known issue, but GoPro will neither fix it, warn you, or stand behind it. See the thread "stiffed by GoPro" for details and camera references. I am going with contour because friends have used it with good results. GoPro never recorded anything for me, and my second choice was so bad they went out of buisness, so my luck has got to get better! I bought a base mount from Fortech, [or fourtech?] on line and I will post a picture when I get off shift. I have a plan to make a mount based on Tim's solution. I'll post my ideas and see what people think.

Pretty old thread, but that's ok...

I agree the Chase Cam is great, but the new GoPro Black has unbelievable video and a wireless remote to turn it on/off/ record.

I've got the new Contour that is even better (IMHO) as it's also HD (not quite the same frame rate as the black, but still excellent). You can use your smart phone to align the camera, and now it's one toggle to both power-on and start recording ... much easier. It also overlays a map (has GPS) altitude and speed... pretty neat.

I use it while riding MX and have taken a couple falls right onto the camera- it still works great. It has a very durable aluminum housing.

Here is a very boring video (M-Roadster at RA this fall) to give you an idea of the videa quality. be sure to click on the little gear icon and change the res to 720...

Same event, shot backwards with the old contour. Its in 1080, but the quality is not as good... (it is through a plastic rear window)

Add &hd=1 to the end of the url in your link, and when people click on it, it will default to the 720 resolution.

Even on the original GoPro Hero HD cameras you can set it up for one button push to turn it on and start recording, and then the next button push stops recording and shuts it off. The directions explain how to set it up like that. I've used that feature on mine. John

Putting more weight on a go-pro mount is a bad idea...

    Contour altimiter, btw.

Unfortunatly for my big crash I was wearing neithor my Leatt Brace or my Contour.

I built a tail/cone for my GoPro that theoretically reduces drag.
No proof that it works. However, the camera used to be pushed back by drag and doesn't any longer.
    YMMV
