How do I find out what # the other cars have? I hate to replace rip the numbers on my car.
New page, this thread still needs more pics!
Nice!
570 registrations in the first 6 hours. 4 out of 7 groups are already filled, maxed out at 85 cars.
I live in Texas and ever since the race was announced cars that haven't been raced in years were getting dusted off. One local race shop that normally takes 4-6 cars to division races has 16 signed up so far for COTA.
I went to the F1 race and was blown away by the track and facilities. The event was run perfectly. No one will regret making this trip.

85 total entries in Group 5.
I'll be removing my second entry which was registered accidently when I had the session timed out. So that should make it at least 5 spaces left.
I count 13 West Coast Drivers making it an almost even split between East and West.

Googled and found this: http://www.racingconcepts.info/
Any pics of it? I see only pics of the Speads on that site.
Designed by the same guy who built a composite chassis with different aero for S2 a bunch of years ago - Clarinval. The club didn't homologate it and the article stated that he had a lot of money tied up in it. Looks like he's back.
Met him at the June Sprints - nice guy. Did all of the aero for the new Speads DSR.
Here's a list of open wheel classes with more entrants than F1000:

I would bet (if Ott is driving in FB) he'll be in a new Speads or the Astra. Exceptional driver. He and Richard showed up to RA during test week last year before runoffs and broke the 2:00 barrier with a 1000cc.
Wait.... Where's Brian Novak?
Thanks for the pics, gorgeous! Looking forward to a fantastic race at a unbelievable race track!!!
I know where I'll be sitting to watch the SM race!
BTW, how about a party??

*sigh*
Well, over the winter my job requires me to be in Phoenix, which means I don't get to work on the car very much at all. Couple that with costs, my dad having to kill himself to get the car ready since I'm not there to help AND get it down to COTA from Detroit by himself, and it makes a very potent mixture of we are screwed. Just not going to be able to get down without killing ourselves early in the season.
That said, anyone know a good FB, FE, FC, FF, F500 for rent??!!?!? I still want to do this race, and if the price is right, I'm in!

WOW 85 cars in group 5 - congradulations to the FB community for fielding the largest formula group.
Since all-ya-all are the majority, do you feel that grid should be set according to time not class? Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that Sundays race will be gridded according to finishing position of Saturdays race.
Split Start, cough, hack! cough...
Brian, I understand. Looking forward to racing with you later in the season.
A split start would be great for a photo too!!

please post your name here if you didnt get in the main registration before it was full.
It is reccommended to still register to be on the wait list as their is a high chance of still getting in.
we so need to do a static group shot of the cars and drivers on the track, all formed up pretty like...
A very serious word to the wise.
GET YOUR ANNUAL CAR INSPECTION COMPLETED BEFORE YOU TRAVEL TO TEXAS!
Is that clear? It is going to be the proverbial zoo. Anything you can do to make it easier will be to your advantage.
Comprende usted?
Seems we have (nearly?) maxed out on entries. Total number is going DOWN now, rather than UP. Guess a number opted to "get registered" first, and then DECIDE about going after the fact.
I did the same -- I still haven't made up my mind firmly (but I'm leaning towards GOING at the moment )

Anyone have info on the practice day on the Thursday before. Not much info on their web page and sups.
Am I the only one? 85 cars in the group worries me. I've never been in any race (cars, motorcycles, karts, dirtbikes, etc) with nearly that many entries. I've seen an SM group with 65 and it was carnage. Sebring Majors was like 45 +/- and it was getting pretty hairy at points. Don't get me wrong I'm going no matter what but if it was my choice I'd do a sprints/ARRC/runoffs 1 off race and further split up the groups. Is there anyway that could happen??
I was thinking that it would be cool if we (FB class) chipped in a $100 each and hired a local video crew to come out and film the class in the pits and on track . It would be cool if we all contributed onboard video etc and had them put together a little promotional weekend video. Very slick.
No. You are one of many. You should see the discussions on other forums. SM (and SRF and other classes) are pretty unhappy about a 15 minute qualifying session. They are proposing all sorts of options, too.
It's going to be a mess. I wish I could be there. :-).
I've also heard that Butch and other respected people are working hard to minimize issues. They'll have some sort of announcement about changes & improvements (but I don't know when).
See my other thread. A quality production will run a little bit more than the amount you suggested.
The Sprints or Runoffs (But definitely NOT ARRC) format has been kicked around, and personally I see that as the way to go, but this thing is a Majors weekend, and I'm pretty sure they are doubles?, so no way to run 2/3 classes in each group...
And how about a good ol get together, a group 5 party?
And I would be down to throw $100-150 toward a video crew.
Qualifying will be a challenge, my thought is to make sure to get a decent lap, a flyer isnt as important as at least get something decent, everyone has the same challenge. One of many cool things about COTA, its got plenty of passing areas. Sure will make an exciting race.
As long as we're as respectful as usual, we should be ok with a little extra precaution. Dont take risks, be smart about lap traffic and to remember, its the first race of the season for most and we dont want it to be the last.
Its a FAST track. Be smart where to pass. Going for a pass in the high speed esses after corner 1 is probably not a good idea. Theres 3 big straights with great passing zones and couple more spots I can think of.
Theres 50 miles per race and theres 2 of em. You cant win anything on the first lap.
With that in mind, we should be fine and have an amazing weekend.

It's going to end up looking like the FF40th. Cars will still be rolling off grid when the leaders come around. Every session. I expect that they will have trouble running on time with all of the carnage to clean up.
I expect it will be pretty entertaining.
I sure HOPE that you are wrong about the carnage. I, for one, would REALLY like to have an enjoyable weekend WITHOUT trying to piece my car back together .. either at the track or after I get home.
I'm going to do my BEST to be "invisible" on the track to F5 and FF - not so much for FV although I would be fine with 'getting smaller in the forward view' . Please keep in mind that, although you might be able to see ME 2 or 3 turns ahead, my TINY TINY field of view in my mirrors is MUCH MUCH smaller and .. it also doesn't see around corners. If you think you are going to catch me on the exit of T3 (esses), I most likely will NOT know you are coming.
I implore *EVERYONE* to consider this a 'fun race' weekend and enjoy the track and facilities - not a 'I GOTTA get that lap record and win' weekend....
This will be BY FAR the most expensive weekend I've ever competed in ... and that's with NO damage to the car. Yes - even more expensive than the Runoffs when considered on 'per day' costs. Go to 'cost per minute' and COTA shoots WAY on up there.
Steve, FV80
IMO......If Steve Ott shows up for the COTA in F1000 he will probably emerge as the lead contender to win, especially if he drives a car that can hold up to the challenge of a world class racetrack and large group of drivers. He is quite the driver from a well respected racing family from Colorado. Very nice to see his name on the list of possible entries.
The F1000 entries are looking quite good. However the thought of up to 85 cars on the track sounds pretty crazy and would expect damaged cars at the end.

That's a pretty bold statement considering the level of competition entered in this race. It can go in anyone's favor with a field this ridiculously huge. I think it'll come down to a little luck to get on the podium. I'd also be watching JR in Brandon's Citation. If there is anyone that can hustle that car around a track like Brandon it would be JR. He will be lethal this year.
JP:
Didn't say Steve Ott would win, but will become one of the top contenders to be on the podium in my estimation.
It's a great field, and yes anyone can win a race. Attrition will always take a toll in a race like this. There are so many variables. That's why I stated the car needs to hold up mechcanically and no accidents, as you well know.
Whatever the outcome, the entries show the "class" that F1000 has. It will be fun to watch. This will be the most prestigous race other than the SCCA Nationals that F1000 has ever been in.
My challenge still stands along with George Dean. A double win will get the driver a check from me in the mail.
It will be fun and exciting to see how this race plays out. I hope Alistair McEwen jumps in with my 2007 Phoenix that he acquired from me.

Just checked the entry list and it is showing 84 entries. Room for one more
I am so excited to see this race. So much potential in F1000, but until now it has been very one sided. The combination of Brandon and the Citation was just too good! There is a new wave of fantastic drivers coming in though, and hopefully the improvements will keep rolling in for the other manufacturers! This is going to be good..
