Default Watkins Glen added, Road Atlanta confirmed

Watkins Glen International added to F1000 Schedule
    Road Atlanta date confirmed

The Formula 1000 Championship Series announced today that Watkins Glen International (WGI) has been added to the 2012 schedule. The Championship will now compete at the famed 3.4 mile road course on the June 29-July 1st weekend in support of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

“We are very excited about going to Watkins Glen International in July,” stated F1000’s Jon Lewis. “It’s the perfect location around that time of the year and our sparkling wine sponsor, Glenora is just around the corner. As a driver, I’ve logged more seat time at The Glen than any other track in North America. It’s always been one of my favorite tracks, fast and technical.”

The June 29-July 1st weekend will play host to the extremely popular Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen GRAND-AM Rolex Series event, where Formula 1000 will play a supporting role. WGI is a historic circuit that has played host to some of the most famous series in motorsports including the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the IndyCar Series. The challenging 3.4 mile, 11 turn circuit is located in New York’s Finger Lakes region overlooking Seneca Lake.

Road Atlanta will host the final event of the 2012 season. Sept 13-16 will be the date for rounds 9 & 10 of the Championship. “We are happy to announce the exact dates of our races in support of Historics,” Lewis continued. “We had a concern that the Road Atlanta date might conflict with the Runoffs, but we’re now secure in that it will be the week before.”

    2012 Schedule
    Rounds 1 & 2 March TBA
    Rounds 3 & 4 May 18-20 Mosport
    Rounds 5 & 6 June 29-July 1 Watkins Glen International
Rounds 7 & 8 Date TBD Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
    Rounds 9 & 10 Sept. 13-16 Road Atlanta

The Formula 1000 Championship Series is sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing and consists of 10 races throughout eastern North America. F1000 cars are some of the most technically advanced in junior motorsports and the Series is open to a host of chassis and engine combinations. Jon,

Have you selected a date or location for your Series spring test day? Will the test day be mandatory for all series entrants?

    Rick,

Our spring orientation program will be earlier in the week of our first event so that teams travelling from a distance do not have to make separate trips to the first event.

We are working on a particular event for our season opener and the orientation program would be on the Monday & Tuesday prior to the event. We've been told that we will know about this event on the 18th.

The Orientation program is not manditory, but highly suggested as we will be going through exactly what the race weekend will entail. We will be practicing standing starts, going through tech procedures, following procedures for marking tires, answering questions about the weekend, etc. There will be limited track time for teams to practice prior to the event as well.

It would be important to be there so that the first event runs smooth, but not manditory. There is no cost to registered teams for this program.
