Just thought I’d post a picture of the new RGU Racing number 16 Evolution which George Podgorski drove at Waterford this weekend. The car arrived at the track a tad incomplete but after an all dayer at the track working in the trailer at first to avoid the rain and then outside we were able to get the car through its annual tech Friday night. On the weekend every time the car went out it looked different as new components and stickers were added. Little problems were solved with the expert help of Larry Campbell, Bill Bonow came over with his German “Metal Eater” and suddenly the nose fit. Dave Satterly made sure we had the right air cleaner. Finally, on Sunday the car went fairly well and was making a late race charge when the radio box fell off and wedged itself in George’s rib cage. He spent the last three laps dancing the masochist’s polka and developed a high pitched voice.
A couple of things for those with the sharp eyes. Note the outboard shocks from the old BRD and this picture doesn’t do Larry Campbell’s gel coat job justice. It’s real nice not to paint your car.
One funny story. While crossing back into the USA at Niagara Falls the border officer asked what was in the trailer. George told him a Formula First. He said “We gonna have to take a look at that. Pull forward and open up the trailer” We obliged and when he saw the car he uttered “cool—how fast does that thing go? ” We should have said 190 and he would have been more impressed.
Only picture I’ve got
