Not sure I am clear on the descriptions...

In-car view would be 1st person? Personally, I drive from the closest behind view, above the rear wing. I have a lot of depth perception problems driving from the in-car views. I don't feel comfortable with the angle of view to the next corner, and for whatever reason, I have never been able to drive that view in ANY driving game.

matter of preference, but i cannot drive at all, except from in car. Feels like Atari Pole position from up top, to me.

in car is 1st person. out of car would 3rd. the follow up poll question would be : which one can you are you faster with. me personally, i like the 1st person POV but i can do faster laps with 3rd. i can see the apex better out of the car.

Incar view for me. I'm much slower in external view.
The only mod I ever really used External view for was the SOH mod I don't know why but it just felt better that way.
Infact I won't even buy a game that has no incar view, I just don't feel like I'm in control otherwise.
I think we may cause a few more crashes because we have no wing mirrors in Heat so we carn't see a cars along side.

Some of the instances we have had in a few of our online races make a lot more sense now. I have driven in the in-car mode a couple times (with no success), in an AI sim race and you cannot see when a car is alongside of you, even if they are into the corner deeper than you are and own the corner. This changes my decision making, though, when diving inside for a pass, knowing that even if I have the corner by rule, I still might not be seen next to the car being overtaken if he is driving from the in-car view.

I wonder what the actual peripheral view or field of vision is for the in-car mode? It doesn't seem like enough, or maybe that is just me. It is one of the reasons why I prefer the out of car view.

let's try that again in the options.cfg file are these lines.

    fov 130.000000
    high_detail_car yes
    mipmap yes
    mirror 1
    mirror_fov 110.000000

the first line is degrees of field of view forward.
the last line is the same for rear and comes with a default of 82 degrees.
but be aware that this becomes a memory hog in the mirror if too wide. the 110 degree view is what i normally use in car. Also if they disappear out of mirrors assume they are close enough to touch and give them a lane. (but not a lane and a quarter) the suspension you save may be yours.

I have my mirror FOV set at 120 but even so you have to keep an eye out.
I've had it set that way for sometime now but I do still cut the odd car up.

How do you get to 3rd person POV while driving? During replay, no problem. While driving, I hit F1 and it toggles between cockpit view and front bumper view; that's it.

    Thanks,
