Post

Yesterday I decided to upgrade my old 8Mb video card to a “nVIDIA 88PCI- 32MB”

Now the f2000 mod crashes on both “benchmark test” or when I go to race. I have searched all the posts here for any help to no avail

Incidentaly Heat (noCD) works just fine with the big Detroit Iron

Here is the log file – Any suggestions?

Don't know if this is a help or not. That is a lot of "can't finds". IMHO it seems to have something to do with the paint.res file.

Look in your F2000 directory and see if there's a file called PAINT.RES. If so, that's good. Now I know some people have had to rename that file to be PAINT256.RES for the game to work.

I'm using Windows XP and the game works fine with just PAINT.RES for some reason. You might try changing the name to the altervative from whatever it is now and see if that works.

I am running win98. I have both paint.res and paint256.res. I tried renaming them but still it didn't work.

Hmmmm...

I had the same problem with the exact video card. Go to their web site and download the new drivers for your operating system. I also had to add a faster Ram to my system for the video card to not cash at different times.

38.49.920: () Panic: Couldn't find sound backfire.sfx

Looks like there's a problem with the game not being able to find the backfire.sfx file in the F2000 mod. Which is probably packed into the race.res file.

Try reinstalling the F2000 mod first.

Now the f2000 mod crashes on both “benchmark test”
Nascar Heat uses the Texas track for its Benchmark (fps) test, so you have to have the Texas track in with the rest of your tracks in order to use the benchmark, if not it will crash back to the desktop.
Here's a link to a free program called fraps, you can use it to check your framerate on any track while your driving on the track, which i think is pretty cool, especially since each track is gonna be different according to detail, it also comes with a few other goodies. Here's the addy: FRAPS
BTW, If you run the fraps program while racing, it will probably do more harm than good as far as your fps goes, it's best just to use it offline while practicing. )

Updated video drivers – still crashed!

Copied race.res from a working game on another computer – still crashed!

Renamed “Hasbro” folder to “OldHasbro” and copied the whole working “Hasbro” folder from the other computer.- YIPPEE!! Success.

I guess this just underscores the value of having backup files.

Now I can upgrade the video card in the 2nd computer and get on with trying to figure out running the game on my LAN with 2 players.

Thanks to rickb99, Livy, Lucky and cruise_ctrl for all your input.

ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA:

Keep a file folder with the ALL OF THE .EXE files for ALL the mods, tracks and patches.

If something seems totally unfixable, reinstall the whole mod. I was playing with the GTP IMSA mod last night when it just stopped functioning properly for no apparent reason. I simply ran 'uninstall' and then 'install' without ever cleaning up left over files. Mod worked just fine again. SAVE THOSE .EXE files !

Bob's idea of a WHOLE backup hasbro folder is a good idea too. That is, if you refresh it whenever you update the folder or files contained in it or even when you make small setting changes to options files and track garage's... good idea Bob
