Formula enterprise vc formula star mazda

I've been locking to buy a formula car, and I want know the difference (techinical and in lap time) between a formula star mazda and a formula enterprise.

Star Mazdas are closer to Formula Atlantics in performance. FE's are closer to FCs in performance. Star Mazdas also cost about twice as much.

Used Pro FM prices have dropped and there are many cars out there for less than $75k.

Is this your first formula car? What is your prior racing experience? Pro Mazda is not an entry level car.

Lot of rich kids thought so when they 1st came out.

I was at one of the very early events at Portland International. Had a HUGE field of Pro-Mazda's (yes the new ones). Mid pack didn't even GET to the S/F line before 12 cars were trashed let alone Turn 1.

The guy on pole did a huge checkup (and was later DQ'd or something), name was something w/ a J, Jennings? Have not heard much outta the (@ the time) young man since then.
That series has/had been plagued by sons of wealthy men for quite some time, but especially at the intro of the Pro FM/'04.

Pro Mazda has about 70 more HP than FE, more downforce, no lift shift.
If piles of money fell out of my trailer when I opened the door I'd probably buy one.

That could VERY well be the race, Glenn. Jeff and I were down by the exit of T-12 on to the front straight in the club paddock. All we saw was FM's playing leap frog over each other and said the usual WT_ ! Sad watching that happen.

Those are seriously powerful cars. You have to have your head thoroughly screwed on just as tight as in FB.

Do you have a license to drive in a pro series? Star Mazda is going to require that to race with them, and a Pro Mazda wouldn't be a great option for SCCA racing (it runs as a Formula Atlantic).

Here's a suggestion - go rent a FE for a SCCA drivers' school. If you can turn lap times within a second or two of the track record, then go for the Pro Mazda. If not........

I was dead set on trading my FE for a PFM until I took a closer look at the expenses.
Entry fees of $1800- $2050, tires @ $1200/set, multi sets req'd for a pro weekend. No per race prize money payout.

So I'll race pro FE until I win the lottery

Both cars are extremely fund to drive. Really depends on how much time you have to work on them. FC you are going to have to play with gears and more setup than an FE. Also FE only has one aero package, 1 set of shocks, etc... Star mazda is a whole new ball game and requires almost a team/or full time job to work on these cars. Not to mention, parts are 5x as much. You should tell us more about what you are looking for.

Out west SCCA is a good option, also there is the formula car challenge (www.formulacarchallenge.com) which is great. Also FCC has a tire rule which helps tremendously in keeping the cost down.

Oh I don't know. You will spend more time in chassis setup than FE (there are more tunables) but the car is not at the ragged edge of performance like an Atlantic, so it's not constant work. I do have a team run mine but that's just for convenience (and their expertise). Parts are expensive though.
