    Default Runoffs Speed Trap Results

    http://www.scca.org/documents/result...9-traps-fe.pdf

Discuss...be back on Tuesday! Dyno of the top three motors probably late next week (plus a mystery 4th engine that I wanted data on...the owner can divulge who they are if they want).

Congratuations on creating a pretty fair sandbox, Erik.

0.034 sec difference across the trap is pretty small.

Do we know the accuracy of the timing device in this application?

This could be pretty well within statistical error for all we know.

Good stuf Erik. Was that best lap out of many, an average, or spot check? I know I spent a lot of time drafting up on Paul or Brandon. That might have been the only difference between mine and the guys up front running without a draft.

The trap was the result of two timing loops, one at S/F and the other 120 feet past S/F. These are the standard timing loops that read the on board transponder, so the results are very accurate.

The trap times/speeds shown are the best for each car during the race.

    Two quick points to ponder:

    1) I'm not sure this tells us anything about the equality of the engines' output power. I think this is more representative of T14 exit speeds, engine torque, and shifting. A reading at the 5 marker going into Canada or T5 would give us more direct info about the actual engines' power output (though even that would be subject to drafting and drag from wing settings).
    2) .034 sec seems small, but 6 mph isn't small at all.

Exactly, that's twice as fast as "walking away".

I've been away for a while - was this data ever released?
