    Default Two FE Quickies

Couple easy questions for you guys:

1.) What is the OVERALL width of the FE/ESR? (this is the "can I fit it in my 7' trailer question)

2.) What type of fuel is required? Pump gas, avgas, 104+ etc?

    Cheers!

    1)

    DIMENSIONS
    • Wheel base: 102.5
    • Front track: 58.5
    • Rear track: 55
    • Weight: Formula – 1250 lbs. Minimum with driver
    2)
Premium unleaded. Don't use AvGas and high octane isn't necessary. It's a street car motor.

    Thanks Tifosi.

I've seen differing definitions of Track width though, and it usually isn't the same ad overall width. I am guessing the overall width of the car is in the 64" range somewhere?

If it is just the 58" number from the Enterprises site, that'd be peachy

If you have a 7' trailer with the wheel wells outside the cargo box, you should be okay. If they are inside the box, you might not make it. I used to tow my FE in a 14' by 7' trailer with wheel wells outside the box. You should measure the door opening as well!!

We use transport wheels Jake. It makes the car real skinny and real easy to load and unload, one man can do it easily with planning (have a wheel chock handy) and practice. I'll measure the car with slicks tomorrow and let you know.
Also the motors last 5+ years and instead of trick of the week you can do the 2 most important things racing spec cars requires. Spend your time prepping your car and improving your driving.

    Thanks for the notes guys

My trailer's narrowest point is ~68" between the pegs that hold the cables for the door. 72" at the door opening, and approx 82" inside. A Speads F1000 (72" with normal tires) would not go in.

Radical's overall width is ~62", and it loads OK - I push it in by myself most times at home, and at the track there's always somebody to help.

    Dave -

Many thanks. Looks like the FE would definitely need transport wheels...the ESR would be reallllly tight!

Yeah come on Jake join the crew of rFactor losers and race FE otherwise hang with the winners and race FB. :P

Eitherway you cant lose. If your wheels are outside the trailer box the car will fit in a 7 foot trailer easy. I have seen multiple in a 14x7.

Wheels are outside the box, plenty of space there. Problem is getting it *into* the box past the narrow bits!

72" at the door, but slightly narrower where the cables attach to the door for the lift assistance etc., since the cables take up "rolling space"

Jesus I must be blind. My car wouldn't fit either so I guess your screwed on FB. The FE's are a good deal narrower than my car so I have the fingers crossed for you man.

With Formula cars, (FE, FB, etc) I think transport wheels would make everything OK, since they'd take a few inches of width off anything. Can't do that with SR's though.

    A Stohr would fit

    Thanks for the help everybody

Hey Jake, we have a brand new pretty white ESR sitting down here at the shop and a new FE on a boat headed this way..

Jerry and I measured the tail and the rear at the widest point and you'd JUST make it. Or you could get our trailer along with the car then you'd for sure make it, that way you and Grant could trailer your cars together.

We can help you with that.... You could probably even work the dually into the deal and have a beefier tow vehicle..

    Hi Jake,

You are welcome to come by anytime and have a look at Christine's FE or PM me for my phone number if you have any questions as I am happy to answer them.

For transport wheels, Bill has a very nice set that he uses and wouldn't be tough to duplicate.

As to fuel, many of us are using 100 Octane race fuel from Dugan as it is FAR more consistent then what comes out of the pump. There is no major power advantage over Premium 91 but I would rather spend a bit more and know what I am getting is most likely what it is advertised to be and free of fuel cell deteriorating additives. Not to mention it affords an extra margin of safety against detonation which is not really a problem for us but we are only talking an extra $40 per weekend here to get all of the above.

Another question to add, in terms of running costs:

Are there pricelists available that somebody can give me that detail the costs of bodywork, wings/noseboxes, control arms, uprights, CV's, gears, axles, input shafts, etc?

Much easier to race hard when you know a shunt won't put you out for the next 2 seasons buying carbon this-and-that.

I would think Erin or someone from SCCAE can get you that. I would like one too to see what I'm in for for repair costs.

We would also be intersted in the source for pit wheels too.

We paid 600 + tires 3 years ago. It was a lot of money but every time I load or unload I remember what it was like without them. Maybe you guys could source the wheels somewhere and have one of this site's sponsors machine the adaptors.

Ouch! The last set of paddock wheels I had were for my F500; I used space-saver spares from a junkyard at $20 each....... Unfortunately, I think I might have trouble finding them in the right 'bolt pattern' for an FE.

You're right, though - once you've had a set, you don't ever want to push the car around without 'em.

After having pit wheels on the FC, I'm pretty sure there will be something in the works for the FE. That particular site sponsor is awfully excited right now.

The FC & FE cars use the same 3 3/4" drive pin circle pattern, so the same transport wheels will fit both cars.

Hey Jake I just noticed that my stack of rain tires is about 3 inches shorter than the stack of drys. Looks like trailering with rains reduces overall width by nearly 2 inches on the front.

Oops. Half of the difference is on the inside of the wheel. So 1 inch change is all you'd see Jake but every inch counts sometimes.
