Default Ron Dennis and Kubica's Nose

Anyone catch the pre-race Speed coverage of today's F1 race? Ron Dennis was asked what he thought about Robert Kubica losing another 5 pounds to help balance his car better. Ron replied that Kubica could lose more than that if he would just fix his nose. Ouch!

BTW, another ridiculously boring race. I have no idea why I watch anymore.

    Take care.

I agree ... Less then a handful of passes (None among top positions)... Lost good snozing time or at least good garage time.

I agree w/Doug. Qualifying was breathtaking. The race was less so but still, the cars are running quite close on overall performance, there were multiple strategies at play and the safety car jumbled those so that much planning was taken back to the drawing board for revision. AND NO TRACTION CONTROL...just the demonstration of car control at this level is worth the price of admission.

Come on guys, if Super Aguri or Force India or...called and asked you to drive do you really think we believe you would say "no" it doesn't interest me...

Snooze if you must or just turn it off but don't disparage these talented guys (drivers, designers, engineers and crew) who are so completely commited.

    Default F1

Is at the sharp end of motorsportand as such, many things come into play, and not just on the track and as such it keeps my interest up, and I also watched the Indy cars, as I follow my fellow countryman, Scott Dixon, whom I thought did a great driving job today, but just missed out on the checker because of the yellow, but was the best of them out there, and for once it was a good race, even though only about half finished

I agree the technical aspects of F1 are incredible, but just think how amazing F1 would be if there were actual RACING between the cars. The two are not mutually exclusive. The parade of cars that are separated by hundreds of feet has nothing to do with relative performance of the cars, as you guys note the cars are quite evenly matched this year. Rather the tracks have become a joke and the aero rules make for really ugly cars while also making it impossible for the cars to run close together. There have been a number of innovative suggestions to fix these problems, hopefully they will get adopted.

No one is disparaging any of the drivers. The technical aspects and engineering is interesting by itself. That separates F1 from most other forms of motorsports.

The Qualifying is now more exciting then the race. Love the format. Even Kimi's team admits the race was won, by out-qualifying Massa, as passing with equal cars was deemed to be near impossible.

What I miss are the days where passing actually happens on-track.

A combination of rules and track config does not allow for cars to stay extremely close and the corning speeds are too high to allow allot of corners to be used for passing. What is are rules changes to allow for the cars to follow each other more closely. In addition the braking zones need to be longer and corner speeds come down,

IMHO, this can be done without damage to the sex appeal of the sport by making the tires harder or narrower. Maybe a harder tire will produce less marbles, allowing for more off-line passes. As for the aero, I'll let the engineers figure that out.

As an autocrosser I look at qualifying as really fast autocrossing. The race itself is simply an excuse for the qualifying.

The most innovative designs in recent F1 was that seaon or wo when wings were banned or severly limited (Early '80's?)... It yielded some intresting approaches and dramaticially differant looking cars.

F1s new "spec" car, or as I like to call it the COT, with that funny wing on the back and all races now being an "impound race" how can there be any passing?? So I must agree with Tim, get that funny wing off the back, slap a plate on them engines (Toyota will love that), and lets go racin boys!!! Then we all can sit around for 2 hrs just waiting for the Big One, besides theres more to racin than racin....like what number will Kimi be next year when he has to give up the 1, I hope its 11 so I can just add a 1 to my tattoo.

I think you mean when skirts were banned and they went to flat bottoms. 1983.

Well Mark, I've got to give this one to you.

Spoken like a true Southern 'Gentleman Racer'.

But, I thought your (or Joey's) tatoo was already an '11', since that is your race number. Glad you have switched from Fisi to Kimi also. After this past weekend, Kimi is on top of the points, maybe he won't hafta change numbers?

That way I won't need to buy a new leather racin' jacket with his new number, or new oval stickers for my street car or a new 1:43 collectible car model....

    Default F1 Boring?

Well if YOU think so try watching the GP-2 race! The new Dallars look like F1 cars without the goofy aero ad-on bits and have big Atlantic size tunnels so they can race close together.
These guys are still crazy and have something to prove (More Passing) and the pole GP-2 car was only 6.7 seconds slower at Spain than the Ferrari F1 pole time.
    Me?-I like both F1 and GP-2
