This past weekend we had our first Double National of the year at Texas World Speedway. We had three FB's for the event (all Stohr). We took 1st in FB, 2nd overall on Saturday and 1st in FB and the overall win on Sunday.
The weekend started with snow for the practice on Friday. All the morning sessions were canceled. The afternoon practice seemed to be productive as the temperatures went up and the sky cleared. Saturday morning qualification was short and ended up being questionable because the timing system was having some issues. Our driver for this event , David Burkett, put the car in P3 out of a field of appx. 35 cars (FA, FB, FC, FE, S2, CSR, DSR). The two other Stohr entries were back in the field and had to deal with more traffic. We took the lead for a couple of laps, but ended up in 2nd overall. James Michael had a scuffle with another car and lost his rear wing, but did a good job to make all the laps and bring the car back in one piece. Mike Stephens was out for the first time at TWS and got up to speed quickly. He had some good battles with plenty of other cars the entire day. Sunday qualifying ended up much the same for us starting P3. The first start was waived for a CSR (DP02) getting into a Continental. We had a red flag while they cleaned the mess up. The race started and we took the lead on the first lap (good thing). An Atlantic (Pro FM) got out of shape, spun, backed across the track, and took out something like 5 cars. Another red flag for an extended period of time and we were back racing again. All FB's made it through the carnage and to the end of the race for that matter. We took the overall win with a hard charging Rusty Mitchell (07 Sprint's winning FE) back in 2nd.
It was good to see all three FB's out getting our entry counts up. Six national entries for the weekend. There is still a lot of interest from everyone who sees these cars.
An FB taking the overall National win in a run group with every other winged car and sports racer says a lot for the class. David did a great job wheeling the car around the entire weekend, not to mention his first time in the car.
I'll post a link to the results if they ever get them up.
