Default Jabroc / skid plate Pinto VD

I'm looking to see where to add more protection to the underside of the car. I have the front stainless steel bracket under the nose. I also have the two metal skids under the oil box.

Where should I add Jabroc? I heard possibly under the front edge of the side pod floors? Then also under the pedal box?

    I have 4mm thick Jabroc.

Check the FB groups if you can, as there were a couple posts on this topic within the last month or two. Long story short, the side pod floors/diffuser edges would benefit from more protection. Exactly where to place the wear blocks and how to attach them are up for debate.

If you use small fasteners, 4mm will work. I bond two pieces of 4mm together for my front skid because when you countersink the holes, the big fasteners required are just flush with the surface of the plate, so the fasteners get ground off and have to be drilled out. I think the nose box fasteners on my 94 are 1/4-28. By using two thicknesses (and I'd probably use 6mm if I was buying it instead of using up my scraps) I can over countersink and bury the heads so they don't get damaged.

The front sidepod skids use #10s and tinnerman washers to hold them on and they do double duty to hold the sidepod stay and the sidepod to the floor too.

How are you bonding it? I already bought the 4mm stuff. Can you post some pictures of what you made?

Picks are on one of the FB F2000 pages. I just used JB weld on my first skid. I think I used clear gorilla glue on my second one.

Again, if you have smaller fasteners or don't mind drilling the heads off when you need to remove the nose, 4mm will do. And a small piece of 6mm probably isn't that expensive.

I never ran extra skids on the sidepods of my 94. I figured if the skids were there they'd be taking hits all the time. I only had 1 instance where I broke a sidepod support (Big Willow off - surprise!)

Where I took most hits was in the diffuser and I solved that by sandwiching some UHMW strips on the sides with some alum angle which also help straighten the diffuser.

I really like the idea of using the tinnermans. They are all over my 01 car. You only have to lay on your back a few times dremeling slots in those fasteners before you realize there must be a better way!

I really only used the ones on the sidepods so I don't wear out the floors. One got ground down about half thickness over many years.

i did the same thing after watching Craig Hibbard grind an absolutely brand new Gyrodynamics down to a flat plate when his fasteners pulled through the diffuser at Cal Speedway. (another good use for tinnermans....)

You can replace the rod-type sidepod supports with ones made from wire rope.

On the nose of my VD S2/P2 two seater, I mounted the jabrock skids by tapping them for 10-24 (a drill/tap in the drill makes short work of this), then I thread the fasteners in from the top. I can a wear the jabrock down to about 2 threads holding it, then I just install new screws / jabrock.

That's a great idea if you have topside access. I forgot how good that stuff is at holding threads.
