This looks like a very nice car in terms of its condition. As a point of clarity though, it is not an original Stohr WF1, nor has it been completely converted to a WF1 as some early cars have been. It would be most accurately described as a Gen 1 Stohr that has had some WF1 updates along the way.

The most obvious thing that "remains" gen 1 is the engine bay. This frame has been retrofit with the revised WF1 front bellcrank location which is needed to fit the WF1 bodywork up front but still has the original Gen 1 engine bay and spar.

This car also has the relatively unusual "early WF1" rear engine cover of which only a few were made before the design was updated in mid 2006 to the design that is produced through to today.

In any event, it doesn't really matter for a regional competitor or a track day enthusiast and would only be relevant at the pointiest end of a nationals grid, but this may answer some questions for those who might be asking why it looks a bit different under the skin than most.

I owned the WF1 prototype car built in 2005 (Ser # 001P). That car was a cross between the early cars and the early WF1s. The main frame was largely the first gen design and was an inch narrower in the cockpit and rear spar area. The rear spar was more like the later WF1 spars but again narrower in width. That narrower width made it a bit of a challenge to remove a 2008 GSXR but with the right angles/twists and holding your mouth properly, the engine could be removed easily. If you were installing a BUSA or later model 1L, the spar would have to be replaced.

That engine cover was found to be an aerodynamic problem which is why it was redesigned in the early WF1 models. I found that raising the rear wing and moving it rearward to get it completely in the air flow increased the car's performance.

The stock brake package needs upgrading. Stan and I worked out a package which used the front rotor on the rears with a 4 piston caliper. The sizes of the calipers and master cylinders were changed to balance out the package. The braking performance was improved considerably. Cost was more than 50% less than the Brembo and other brake upgrades available. Stohr started providing this particular brake package as baseline in their newer cars. I have some spreadsheets on it if anyone is interested.

As Mark said, this looks like a good car and would be great for Regionals and learning how to drive a WF1. But costly upgrades will be necessary to make it competitive in the new Prototype class.

    Craig and Mark,

Thank you for your replies and you are accurate in depicting the car as a WF1 conversion, wasn't meant to be deceiving in any way on that point. While there are surely additional upgrades that can be made to the back of the car, and perhaps the brakes package, the car itself is in incredible shape and in essence brand new from the driver compartment back. With the changes going on within the rules package and a move to consolidate classes into "Prototype", there are many cars that will likely need certain modifications to remain competitive. I do feel this is an incredibly good foundation for that.
